Shooting is impossible

Whoever said the shooting is rubbish because PES does not have a FIFA finesse button, needs their head looking at.

The finesse shot on FIFA is one of many reasons the game is pathetic, everybody uses it, I call it the FIFA goal and this shit has been going on since 97/98.

FIFA is automatic whereas PES is slightly more input skill based.

There is nothing wrong with shooting on PES 2011, they fixed the floaty issues in a patch. Positioning AND pressure is crucial to your outcome of the shot. If your positioning is bad the shot will be wayward, if you are under pressure from a defender or five FORGET EVEN SHOOTING, YOU WILL MISS.

When you have 100 yards of space like it seems you need, tap shoot and then hold it down again straight after a little bit more than your tap. This keeps your shot as down and hard as possible. You can also knuckle ball the ball if you time it right.

Shooting is very situational in PES 2011, it requires practice. Which converting FIFA gamers do not have any time for what so ever, it would not surprise me in the slightest if soon on FIFA the CPU will score goals for you. Especially after the two-button controller setup on WC2010 (and maybe even FIFA 11? I cant remember...)

Good post and one thing to add, body balance is also an important stat when shooting, a player with higher body balance will be able to strike the ball better under pressure. I was a big advocate for manual shooting but I think this current system is on the way to greatness, I feel it represents the instinctive nature of striking a ball.

Agree with all the points thus far. Another thing in PES2011 is that players can have the exact same stats for certain attributes, but differ in their playing style and behavior. Knowing your player well is very important, and the better you know and understand the "feel" of the player, the easier it will be to do what you want to, with that player.

Anyway, enough of that. Another very, very, helpful shot in 1on1 situations is the low chip shot. This is carried out by pressing R1 after pushing shoot, before the player strikes the ball, and while the power guage is still displayed. The conversion rate is insane, once you get the knack of it. Timing is key, as it is in any shooting situation really. You just need to lay off the dash button a few yards before reaching the keeper. I take a normal shot while watching the keeper closely as I'm getting close to the area that will see him rush for the ball. Then if he rushes, I quickly tap R1 as he commits. The striker will cheekily chip it over the rushing keeper. If, for some reason the keeper doesn't rush, I don't tap R1, and since I've taken a normal shot, you get off a decent effort. Once you get the timing down. This shot is deadly, and is probably the best shot in the game, if used properly.
Practice makes perfect.

1 last point before I conclude. Adding to the very useful tips above, shooting in this game is purely based on momentum. Use this basis to get a feel for how dynamic the shooting is. Forget about powering up by holding in the shoot button, initially. What you should do is just lightly tap the shoot button, and keep this constant. Now, work on getting your players momentum going through the shot. So you will begin to understand how to generate real power, which is what's required when using mediocre players. You will see how you momentum can generate more than enough power. I score from 30+ yards out with players like Paolucci, and Miccoli while using Palermo against Madrid or Inter, and I never hold in the shoot button. I always just tap it lightly and but i can generate power because the player gets a clean strike through the ball with his momentum directly behind the ball.

I hope that helps. Some class tips here guys, great contributions above.

Do you mean holding to the side the analog stick for less time or pushing it to sides halfway? Basically, is it like penalty?

Sorry for the late reply, hope you'll get to read it.

It honestly depends on the distance. I find the closer you are to the goal, the more you have to push the stick to a side. The further out, the less it matters.

The more important thing, which im not sure if i mentioned before, is the angle you shoot at. Always make sure your body is directly facing the goal, so your players always looking at the goal, not turning and shooting. Thats more important that using the analogue stick. The analogue stick is great for curving the ball by up to around two yards depending on shot power and shot technique.
