Star Wars Republic Commando

MUFC THE RELIGION
This game looks great, A little Halo feel to it!:

LucasArts never rests and they certainly have kept the Star Wars Universe alive with their constant release of related games. Their upcoming Star Wars title, Republic Commando, is a squad based first-person shooter that gives players a look into the world of the elite Republic army. In this game, the squad is your most powerful weapon and players will take control of a team of three Republic Commandos, who rank among the top level of Clone Troopers. LucasArts has put together 15 detailed levels that accurately reflect the Star Wars flava we are familiar with in the films, as well as some new environments never seen before. After watching the new gameplay footage at the press briefing held Monday night and getting some much enjoyed hands-on time during E3, I’d have to say that this is quite possibly the best looking and playing Star Wars action/shooter title I’ve ever seen.

Last year’s E3 unveiled the first trailer which was made up mostly of cut-scene animations that looked impressive, but the gameplay was still a bit of a mystery. This year however, LucasArts has much more to show and the game is shaping up for what seems to be the most detailed Star Wars action based combat title to date. With a heavy reliance on squad based tactics, Republic Commando will test both a player’s skill with their weapons as well as their ability to coordinate the efforts of their squad mates to mount an effective effort against enemy forces. In case you haven’t caught this year’s trailer, you will want to make sure you check it out here.

Each mission will begin with an overview briefing regarding the mission objectives. Some of the types of missions will include hostage rescues, infiltration and data retrievals, assassinations, assaults, sabotage and recon objectives. During each mission players will have flexibility as to how they organize their squad and direct the actions that take place. This gives players a great feel of what it would be like to have an elite Commando squad of their own in the immersive world of Star Wars.

That's one ticked off Geonosian.

As Republic Commandos, players will be armed with more than a dozen authentic weapons, including the DC-17m Interchangeable Combat Weapon System; the primary issue firearm of the elite Clone military. This weapon allows the Commando to swap from standard firing to sniper mode with a quick attachment. Also in the arsenal are the DC-15s Sidearm Blaster Pistol, the Trandoshan Slaver APC Array Blaster and the Geonosian Elite Beam Weapon. A weapon like the Geonosian Beam is just one of the enemy guns players can pick up and make use of after killing an enemy. While these weapons alone are quite powerful and sure to do a good amount of harm to anyone within sight, the best offensive and defensive weapon will be the squad and their teamwork you control.

Star Wars: Republic Commando’s AI is very impressive and it was easy to see that the other squad members quickly react to a player’s commands and movements that relate to the specific situation at any given time during a mission. Rather than simply following and waiting for a command, the NPC Commandos will actively make their way along during each mission with a precision that is so instinctive you might forget they are computer controlled all together. If another squad member takes damage you can assign another Commando to “heal” them. Should they have time, squad mates will even heal themselves. This brings us to another note; since the Commandos are Clones, they don’t really die in the sense you might think. LucasArts explained that the Commandos become “disabled” until they are given some much needed heath. Throughout the game players will be able to save up healing power at various energy stations positioned in each mission.
