Just want to put my 2 cents in regarding various whines relating to PES6
I understand people get frustrated with the game and like to compare it to others and other generations of PES6 but I really feel alot of the whinging is unwarranted. You have to rememebr that Ronaldinho is only as good as the player controlling him
YES - PES6 can be frustrating, like watching Liverpool go down to Man U in the 92nd minute
YES - You can miss from 6 feet out, like Fabregaes against Reading just a few days ago
YES -you GET CARDED IF YOU TACKLE FROM BEHIND.
these all seem reasonable enough
The passing system does raise some questions. I look at it like this.
The short pass does seem a bit slower, especially when used by less skilled players and the angle is outside your facing 45 degrees, also, if you pass too obviously the CPU will intercept alot.
IMO the passing is fine from a realism standpoint. If you pass hard and fast then it is difficult for the receiver to control it. My advice would be
(1) Mix up your passes. there are 4 main passes as I see it
normal short pass
cut out short pass (hold the pass button usually goes to second player in that direction)
long (lob) pass
Through ball.
Plus there are 1-2 passes that are effective and a vareity of crosses
(2) The direction of your control pad or stick affects your pass, and it is VERY sensitive. Practice is the best way to learn intuitively how your directional controller affects your pass
Defense / Tackling
There are some issues here.
(1) Dont tackle from behind. This should be a given guys, its not allowed in the real game, so dont do it in PES.
(2) If your player is behind the player with the ball either switch player or sprint in front of him and jockey/contain beofre tackling. The R2 button lets you do a jockey stance which is REALLY useful.
(3) Holding the tackle button is not recommended all the time. It is a good way to let your opposition know exactly where your going. Manoeuver yourself into a good position and time your tackle. It is also possible to take the ball away from the player by timing a run onto the ball without pushing the tackle button.
(4) Similarily, holding the 2nd man press (shoot) button is not always recommended. Hold it until your 2nd man gets close to the player, release and then hold again seems effective in my game.
(5) There are right moments to slide tackle. They are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. Use it wisely, and never in abundance.
To summarise, your defensive priority should be
(1) Get players between the ball and the goal
(2) force opponent away from goals (to the wings, play the ball back etc)
(3) tackle
Too many players seem to place (3) TACKLE as their only defensive priority. Note that there is NOTHING in the history of football to indicate that this is an effective method of defense, and any player that simply charges into tackles time and time again will give away a number of free kicks.
Tackling is a skill and requires as much precision as shooting and dribbling. Dont forget that. I think alot of players get lazy about defense, just wanting to attack attack attack, but few football matches end with more then a 60/40 split in possession so you can expect to spend roughly half the game defending, and so requires as much practice and precision as attacking.
In short PES6 is best approached like a real game of football. Have the right mindset and it is infinitely enjoyable. If you dont want to work for your goals, practice and learn, or cant stand losing, then Fifa07 is available instores now.
