I have read on posts before that if you press R2 after you put the power up to shoot you do a little jump and put more power into your shots, however when I do this it just seems to do a kind of fake and my player stops and the ball keeps going?!?! Please can someone help?!

I never use that and get powerful shot by timing it right, hit square just after you've taken a touch so you have space for the player to swing through the ball. Sprinting tends to help but may reduce the accuracy.
