ha ha i gathered you were mate no need to tell me as you kinda ruined the illusion....
but its true fifa 09 in my eyes was a massive let down you can have loads of stadiums, balls and supposedly awesome graphics but in my eyes its just a polished Turd....
I'm sorry to say this as a PESfan since ISS Pro Evo 1 on PS1; but I really don't think that FIFA09 is that bad. Actually I chose it instead of PES this year, for the first time ever. I felt that EA had taken gigantic steps forward, whereas Konami was just getting nowhere... At the end - IMO - we had two games that were almost equally good, it was really just upto what you wanted of a game. I fell for the nice animations and all the small details in animations and the graphics in general, that made FIFA look and feel so much more real. On top of that, I really like the manual control setup - and then you should really not ever play on the two easiest levels - since then you won't get a proper challenge. At the end I guess that all the licenses turned me over, so I was able to play as my favorite team, OB from denmark.
I have to stress here that I used to be a hardcore gamer. But now at age 34 I live with my wife and our daughter who is almost two years old, have an unusually busy job (graphics designer) and love playing golf when time allows. So I havn't got as much time on my hands anymore to play those multiple seasons in ML and so on. Therefore FIFA has worked wonders for me this year. No real editing needed so I shouldn't "waste" time on that (although I've always loved editing!).
For you guys, who get to play 5+ seasons of ML, I really don't know if FIFA would be too shallow. I think it worked "wonders" this year. It felt real with the manual controls and for me, I could make the sliders work!? Someone in here has said that the sliders really doesn't work well, but I can really feel the difference when I make changes in them.
But a major reason why I choose FIFA and not PES in 09, was that I felt that PES had turned into a sprintfest. Give the ball to either Messi, Eto'o, Rona7do og Rooney - and you felt you only needed to play with that single player and sprint from everyone, as you used to in FIFA!!?!?!
Now with PES showing signs of returning its simulations roots, I'm really eager to see what it turns out to be. I don't think it stands and falls with 360 movement. For me I think that both 16 or 32 angles would be sufficient. 8 though is NOT enough. With the news out from PES so far I could be enough for me to pick up PES again. But I have to say, that if PES turns out to only have 8 ways control again - I might not be that interested. That would just be too sloppy from Konami.
From the news I've heard from FIFA, that game does really sound good too. As I wrote in the comments section on this sites frontpage not too long ago, I had made 4 surgestions to EA on how to improve. So far 3 of those improvements has been mentioned as being implemented in the '10 installment. Now THAT does make the game a bit more interesting i my eyes. But my eyes will once more turn to PES first!
Sorry for this "novel" of a reply, it just flew out...
