While there have been many rumors about a game based off of The Godfather, aside from a mention in an Electronic Arts investor conference in May, no one outside of the company had heard much about the game prior to today.
Billed as "an offer you can't refuse," Electronic Arts finally revealed its game based on The Godfather, both Mario Puzo's best-selling novel and the Francis Ford Coppola film it inspired, at this evening's Spike TV Video Game Awards. Most of the details are still hidden in the shadowy corners of Don Corleone's office, but in addition to a new pre-rendered teaser video, there are a few bits of information to reveal.
As the movie suggests, EA has secured the license to the real likeness of actor Marlon Brando, and Don Vito Corleone will be one of the key characters in the game. EA also has the rights to use the film's original soundtrack, including the familiar theme that plays over the teaser. The publisher's choice of platform (or platforms) hasn't been revealed, nor has the specific development team that's handling the game, but the finished product will hit shelves in the fall of 2005.
That's it for now -- to check out the brief teaser movie that was revealed at the Spike Awards Show, recounting Don Corleone's famous conversation with the mortician Buonasera, head over to our downloads section. We'll have more details about the game soon.
