Is it worth bothering to edit the game now...will the official update work with our edited versions or will we have to start from default? (xbox)

im going to make a back-up option file & just leave it untouched & then when the update comes out i will download it & see what happens, if it turns out that it overwrites my original file i will still have the other one to go back to.
