Well, I know what you mean about teams playing very similarly; I think the best way around that is to change the difficulty level before each game to match the relative strength of the opponent. I haven't done that this season as I've got used to the game now. I first started off getting quite a few 0-0 draws, and I remember that happening with PES 5, about 10 years ago.
Funnily enough, my last match was against Swansea City (as Manchester United)- at some points of the game they were playing like Barcelona on crack- but I managed to win by 3 goals to 2.
I liked PES 2013, teams would vary their tactics and I remember the coach saying about teams playing 'long ball' or 'possession' etc. I think that was the one where they had all of the Spanish grounds. Teams do vary their tactics in FIFA, but Swansea had a passing completion percentage of 92%, which isn't very realistic, but I enjoyed the match.
I actually prefer how the players receive and control the ball in PES, I just got sick of the arcade scorelines/crap goalkeepers! The 'Player' cam is incredible at times, and it suits how I play (possession).
