I just had an absolute barnstormer of a game on Fifa and its changed my mind set totally about how to play it. I cant play online atm so i am just playing Friendlies. Anyway i played Marseille v Celtic at the Millenium Stadium which is now definetly my favourite stadium out of the 50 or so. The pitch is beautiful, You can see the fans during play and it looks outstanding on goal kicks etc. Bit of back story, basically ive been Liverpool in my Manager mode for 3 seasons and now have a rediculous squad with players like, Ronaldo, Villa, Dan Alves, Evera, Essien, Abonglahor, Ash young littered throughout my team. Playing with a team like that absolutely frikin kills games dead. I thought having a squad like that would be amazing and open doors but all it does is lead you down a one way street. You basically never conceed, can achieve anything at your say so and all it does having a team like that is encourage you to run, run, run and just simply play 1 dimensional football. You dont need to use skill and because your team are so quick and agile there is no space on the pitch anymore. You move forward one step and you've covered 5m and takes away space and time on the ball and all situations become to feel the same. It sucks badly and is dredfully boring. If you havnt gone down the route of picking a big club dont.

Anyway so i was playing a friendly. The stadium was almost as superb as the stlye of football i was playing. With Marseille i was getting the ball down and kncoking it about for the first time ever and i loved it. I found there to be a massive pitch for once for me to move around in and it actually took time to reach the other end of the pitch which was great. With all the space and time and lack of speed my players were just passing it around biding our time, looking for openings and looking great on the ball . Even if i wanted to play like that with Liverpool i couldnt. Other things were factors aswell. Playing with a small team like Marseille i dont feel like i am capable of winning 5-0 every game. Infact i only just won 2-0 against Celtic on Professional which is geat because i feel like i can actually loose a game whereas with Liverpool i knew every game i was gonna thrash them and win every cup and each win and cup felt as empty as the one befor it. With Marseille though i feel like the underdog and wins feel hard earned and grafted for along with the goals.

I love playing with the underdog feeling and sence of potencial my team has to grow . Im actually going to start a French league with Marseille. This coming from som1 who has never played a season in a football game without Liverpool etc. I cant wait. Its gonna be so good not having everything handed to me on a plate and actually having to work my way up to the top and earn my success. The satisfaction will be great. I would love finninshing 3rd or something just to remind me that i cant just boss the league and then winnig the league will be so good.

i played both fifa and PES on manual passing,only thing that was assisted was shooting which i changed second session i played it
and i `m still waiting for beyondthought to explain to me "that i dont understand the game or how to play it"

I don't know what it is, but I just can't help but feel disappointed with PES09 and PES08.

It has not improved in the slightest, and to add insult to injury the game as arguably gone backwards.

No significant improvements in the edit mode. Which makes me wonder, is that hard to include small details such as:

- Option for placing Logos on the Sides of the Shirts.

- Option for placing Logos on Socks.

- Option for manually determining the Shorts Length.

- Including "Preset Faces" and "Preset Hairstyles" as an option, because "built faces" always look crappy.

Would it be that hard?

And besides the edit mode.. the 8-Directional Movement feels more edgy and less fluid than before. What happened with it??

Tapping R2 after every pass remains the only reliable option for setting up attacking runs. Is it that hard to implement something similar to FIFAs L1 attacking run??

The same Stats and Special Abilities, which have been in use for the past 5 or 8 years. The same 4 types of movements, etc, etc.. everything has essentially remained the same.

I just feel disappointed about having to pay good money for a mere update. One would expect to see a couple of New Stats and Abilities here and there, better movements, maybe some new concepts for Momentum and Team Chemistry..

But Konami just doesn't seems interested in evolving, it seems like a lost cause. By the time PES actually Evolves, the vast majority of Football Fans will be playing FIFA.

probably like the rest of us ,you feel dissapointed because the fun has gone out of the game play ,everything else is just nit picking

you could argue that its become too difficult to play beautifull football on pes

But not becuase of intelligent defenders, because of reatarded teammates. If it made it hard to play beautiful football because of great defensive AI then that would be fine, ALA Fifa.

Are you getting into tactics and formations??? unfortunatly the cpu dosnt understand when and how to change them to compensate for our teams and thats why when you create your 'super team liverpool' you can exploit the weakness of computer AI...if you play a top human player i think they could make it harder for you to play 1 dimensional football, i know they do me !!!

The computer adapts it's tactics well i think, and they have a clear impact on the way the game plays. I find Stoke to be a real nightmare to break down with Arsenal(on manual) for instance. They use exactly the same tactics as in real life, and although I still use a 4-4-2, i've tweaked the custom tactics to perfection for manual but still no obvious way to exploit the com. Assisted may be a different story, but i'm done with that now, forever!

thats truly unfortunate ,i was looking foreward to your words of wisdom on how to time passing football

but if you still think fifa is the cats tits five passes that shows fifa isnt all cracked up to be.......six if you want to take the piss

using standard 4-4-2

pass 1.) defender to LM

pass 2.)LM inside straight pass to CM

pass 3.)CM ball foreward to CF

pass 4.)CF passes it back to CM

pass 5.)CM passes it foreward to oppisotte CF whos made the run inside of the CB(other words clean through)

pass 6.) optional ball CF straight pass to CF with the CB inbetween the two


if only i had templates i could have done graphic descriptions
but i`ll guarentee you that works on fifa every single time

p.s. have fun winning easily

Oh yeah, what do you do if your teammates aren't in position to complete the set of passes you listed, as is often the case?

And surely if you're using manual passing, to pull off such a ping pong play would not be 100 percent successful each time?

I really don't think you know what you're on about, or are basing your opinion on a few games not on legendary difficuly, and with assisted passing, not manual passing as you for some reason believe you were using.

honestly try it ,you will be amazed at the results ,there all ball to feet infact i challenge all players playing fifa to try that passing move ,its so simple any player can do it ,theres little or no running ,the AI doesnt addapt to it at all

and secondly dont know why your being so hostile for ,this is supposed to be a civilised forum ,you could at least act adult

thirdly are you getting greater enjoyment and a challenge out of fifa because you know how to beat pes? if so i can understand why you find fifa a revelation

I'm not being hostile. What do you mean they're all ball to feet? Is that supposed to make it easier? Surely playing exact ball to feet passes using manual is not so easy that anyone can do it? Especially when you consider that i have played some of the top ranked players in the world on manual controls, and they've been shit at it. It takes time for anyone to master.

P.S. When you're playing really short passes, how long do you hold the pass button down for, i'm having troubles with over hitting it?

please, you just dont understand, stop trying to because everytime you post you look stupid..

i have an idea what you should do instead....EA have many compititions where you can win money and prizes, seeing how good you are after a few games i suggest you go play in them you should win 20-0 against most of the best players...

ps i LIKE to play football...

firstly when each player receives the ball make sure they are facing the next pass in the move ,this gives greater accuracey for eg when you play the ball from FB to LM turn the LM infeild to face CM you short pass ,the CM receives and turns to go foreward then pass to CF because the CF is coming back there is no need to turn but wait till the defender gets close then pass it back to your CM he will have gained 5 to 10 yards in this time closing down the next ball ,on receiving the ball turn your CM north by north east to increase accuaracy and immidieatly pass the ball before your striker running on the inside of the CB becomes too straight

the rest is practice
