One solution to the Barca-vs-Barca problem

What do you think of the team limiter function described above?

A practical and easily implementable solution to avoid most online matches from becoming "Barca vs Barca" or "Barca vs Man U" would be to have an option to limit the teams available, once the host player has chosen a team, to teams only similar in strength (or less in strength), where the strength of a team is simply measured by the area of the pentagon shown when choosing teams (the pentagon based on the attack, defence, speed, teamwork and technique of the team).

This solution would be dynamic and also change in the future with transfers that make teams stronger or weaker.

There are of course other possible solutions. However, I cannot think of a fairer and simpler one.

Do not forget that this limiting mechanism would be optional and is up to the host while creating the match room.

There would also be a sign next to the room name indicating it has this feature enabled, to avoid frustration later on.

What do you think?

PS. Apologies, the title of the poll should have ended with "... as described below." This is my first poll ever, and I cannot correct it anymore.

The old mirror match tbh nothing should be done about it. Neither of those teams I support in the least  Yeah its daunting when people are the big clubs but put it this way many poeple online have fallen to my lil brother when he plays as Club Brugge. I'm never one for banning certain teams in online play or limiting peoples choices- in my experience skill comes through.

ive always hated using the best players on pes it makes the game to easy and if you half a brain u can win alot of games using top teams online ...
maybe grade the teams A to D ,example Barca ,Man Utd etc.. graded A and the weaker teams graded b ,c ,d

implement this into the option when setting rooms up or searching for a quick match

I just pick the team I want to play for.

I actually have more of an issue with people originally picking Man Utd, then changing to a team more "evenly" matched to the one I pick. For example, the person I'm about to play quickly moves to Man Utd, trying to get to them first. If they see I'm going to pick Basel, for example, they'll move to Newcastle Utd. They're still picking an outrageously good team, but because they have a weaker reputation in real life, they think they're doing me a favour.

I actually prefer playing these one-team, one-dimensional players, who stick to the super teams, so I can teach them a lesson.

Sometimes, I just start going back and forth from poor to good teams, just to annoy them. So, when they pick a poor team, thinking I'm going to be one, I'll go and pick Barcelona, then they'll pick Man Utd, they'll move back to the shit team, etc.

Being able to teach them a lesson once in a while is fun yes, I do it too.

However, having to teach them a lesson every single time hurts.

Have nearly been doing nothing else since PES 2008 online.

The level and quality of online games could be improved if people can be forced to choose teams without superstars that can run around the pitch and walk in the goal.

Honestly, I find it hard to believe that someone has never said to themselves "why do they always choose barca".

Note that barca here is a metaphor for all the top teams.

If every now and them you just wish you could play against an average team, this option could just be enabled once and then switched off again.

I've only actually played around five games online, but haven't bothered since, because of the awful lag. I played more games online on PES2008 and PES6.

I find playing against these superpower teams more fun, when you're a weaker team. If you're battering them, score-wise, to the point they quit, then it would be even more of a poor game if they were a team of equal or lesser quality. I prefer playing against people who pick the superpowers, if it means a more challenging match. This applies to FIFA, too.

However, I agree there should be an option where you can exclude certain teams.

True, you do make a point there.

However, I wonder if in the long term, team limiting features like these (not necessarily mine, but any) would actually encourage people not to rely on superstars and top teams and learn how to play PES the way it was meant to be played (in my opinion at least), with good playmaking and strategies.

You should be able to set up/search for games with people who want to play as lesser teams. Although me and my housemate have a ton of fun beating Barca and Man United with Preston on FIFA.

the solution is simple, the higher your ranking the weaker your team selection options should be......your win-loss statistics should determine which teams are available in ranked matches. i'm not saying that top ranked players should have to use the worse teams in the game, but nothing above 3 stars. players with poor ranking should be able to choose any team they want......this will lead to lower ranked players challenging top players in the knowledge that they are in with a chance. after all, if you claim to be a great player then you should be able to prove yourself against anyone with any team.....then the real talented players would rise to the top, and there could be no doubt that they are not just one trick ponys who can only win with real or barca. what do you guys think, does this idea sound plausible?

of course, if two players of a similar rank are playing they can choose whatever team they want, the restrictions only need apply for higher vs lower ranked players
