10 things KONAMI needs to add to PES to make it amazing

PES 2012 looks like its going to be a pretty decent game once someone makes realistic stat changes and once jenkey and yair patch it up a bit, but I still don't think it will be amazing.

Here are the things that PES 2012 lacks to make it a really amazing game :

First things that will probably be fixed in Pes 12

- Stats are horrible and unrealistic, not only for some players but even individualy they are way wrong for some players, some of their stats are overrated while some others are underrated, it goes mostly for accuracy stats like dribbling acc, shooting acc, passing acc..etc; this will be fixed in the future by different stat modifications and such but I still don't see why KONAMI can't do them at least decently properly.

- AI pressure is wrong and not very smart, as a result you can if you want hold the ball for as long as you want even if you are Rangers and play against Barcelona. The thing is while AI might pressure like crazy at times it only really pressures the ball carrier instead of closing down passing lanes forcing you to kick a long ball ahead. Stats do play a bit of a role here aswell tho, because defenders have better technique and passing stats than most should; this will be fixed by point 1 stat modifications aswell as jenkey and yair probably.

- Better balance between attack and defence, so far it seems the balance is around 60:40 maybe a good 55:45 but in any case, its too easy to score. Reasons for this are firstly goalkeepers I will talk more about this later. 2nd thing is that the shooting acc is a bit too good for most players and overrated ( like Messi ) and even players with 85 shooting acc can shot the ball really good and accurately, the 3rd thing is that players are a bit too good in dribbling and two certain things come in mind here which are the speed burst and speed merchant, both of these are just a bit OP but mainly because the AI is always perfect in its execution time and angle ( im not saying you can't stop the AI because you can by working as a team in defence, im mainly talking from the perspective of playing BAL games and testing this out, if a CPU vs CPU battle occurs and its 1 on 1 the attacker will almost always get past him because its execution is perfectly timed and angled always, it should have a bit of a variety imo ); again this will all be balanced with yair and jenkey probably to make it more enjoyable.

And here my 10 points that I hope KONAMI adds next year or in future games

1. Better Animations - the animations in game are plain horrible no matter what anyone says this is not acceptable for an almost 2012 game, animations look like they are from a game in the 90's.

2. Better commentary - this is one of the things that really makes you "feel" the game, its not particularly hard to make better commentary and I have no clue why KONAMI still can't make a great commentary for once, they should take note from 2k sports.

3. More manual less assisted game - pes still is very assisted at times, we talked so much about wanting a free game but KONAMI is still not capable of providing that, very annoying things like you are forced to jog when you use the off the ball set pieces controls , or when the opponent goalkeeper has the ball. You can't do what you want which in this case is sprint, the game FORCES you to do something and LIMITS you still. Same goes for shots, sometimes the AI will choose where the ball wants to go, sometimes you aim for the left corner and instead the ball will go towards the right corner, I really don't get what the point of this is really.

4. Goalkeepers are a problem - Its not even because they are too slow or react too slow, well maybe a little but imo the biggest problem with goalkeepers all these years and I think the fix for them is :
- better animations ( they lack all the proper animations to pull out all the proper saves in all situations, KONAMI needs to really focus on this aspect )
- better individuality for goalkeepers ( goalkeepers need their own stats, its like that in EVERY single sports game that has goalkeepers except pes, football manager, hockey etc... its everywhere and for good reason, you can't use player stats to use for goalkeepers, they need individual stats for goalkeepers only period. I will only mention one such important stat which is error proneness, one of the most important individual stats for goalkeepers that makes a big variety in them as individuals. )

5. Scripting simply needs to STOP once and for all in pes, I have had enough of it - we all know what im talking about, the cpu cheating and scripting is obvious and I don't need to lose words over it.

6. Refs - they are again not good, infact they are very bad, they whistle for every single little contact there is breaking up play all the time. The advantage play is better but still flawed sometimes the ref will whistle a foul when you would have gotten the ball in a very dangerous area. He will NEVER give a card for anything other than a slide tackle, at least not in my experience so far, even if its a BLATANT and OBVIOUS foul which just cost the team a one on one. And the biggest issue with refs is INDIVIDUALITY, pes needs to make different types of refs, every single ref is completely the same which makes the refs as a whole LACKING any sort of individuality and variety. They could at the very least make 2 different settings each with 3 points for all the refs which are : how much he whistles for fouls and how likely he is to card players.

7. Better Team individuality - The tactics section of the game needs a major expansion, so far we only have a few sliders from 1 to 20 and I think if we had these sliders from 1 to 100 it would bring more variety, then they should also intruduce different styles of play, for example a proper posession game etc.. types of play where the players themselves would really play in such a style, for example posession game would be alot of short passing and even the goalkeeper would rather pass instead of kick the ball ahead and slow build up play etc ..

8. Better player individuality - Again like teams , players would also be better if they had a bit more individuality, I have quite a few ideas here from more different running animations to more different dribbling types of players like ( stepover dribblers, Messi alike dribblers etc ), to players who orchestrate the midfield like Xavi. The Index cards are somewhat a step forward in this direction but they are still VERY limited and lacking so far.

9. Define the difference between strong and weak clubs more - Now idk why but I don't sense a strong difference between playing Germany or playing Belgium and neither does the AI in game. I know that any team can beat any team on a given day but seriously, the much stronger team needs to at least control the game, the problem in pes is that the AI rushes forward and there is no real build up play, the game pretty much skips the midfield which is the most important part of the game and thats just wrong. As a result if you put Spain and Austria to play then Spain might very likely win because of better individual players but they won't dominate the game at all, it will just be essentialy attack , attack , attack , attack, attack with only the teams switching between them attacking which is very very lacking imo.

10. final point that KONAMI needs in its game is SLIDERS. No matter WHAT the game looks like, no matter what some players like or dislike, it can all be washed away if ONLY we had sliders. Someone thinks goalkeepers should be a bit better? ramp up the slider from 50 to 60. Someone thinks shots are to accurate ? slide it down to 45 or 40. Someone thinks dribbling or speed is a bit OP? again lower the sliders. No matter what situations the game OFFERS to you you can change it to better suit your needs and what you think is realistic, you are not LIMITED to something the game offers you instead you can change it to suit your thinking of how the game should play. Ultimately there are very few sports games that I played over the past 10 years that don't offer sliders and most of them are horrible, only exception from this is PES. Pes has alot of potential and I think even adding only this last 10th point would make the game MUCH better and much more enjoyable for the majority of people.

I know some of you might not read my long wall of text and thats fine, im not forcing anyone to read it. But I think if not all surely people would agree with most of my points, I just really hope KONAMI would take some of them into consideration for next year.

- In fairness, this will always be the case with stats for any game, there will always be people who find some overrated and some underrated, it's been the case with football games...well, forever.

- Do defenders really have better passing stats than they should? I'd disagree with that. Most are fine to be honest, some are even as low as high 60's low 70's, that's not over board at all. IN my opinion this is easily the best AI probably any football game has had. They pressure brilliantly. You may be able to hold the ball at the back for ages, but if you're just attempting to sit at the back to test this out, then that's pretty pathetic in itself...play the game to play proper football, not to keep the ball at the back for 90 minutes. Sometimes players wont even want to commit anyway.

- I'm loving the shooting, I think it'd play both ways, somebody will always have a moan that the shooting is either too good or too bad.

1. I think this is utter rubbish, I love some of the animations. Some great new keeper animations (yes they make mistakes and could be better, but they've added some nice animations in places)...they've added the blocking animation, the team appealing for penalties animation, appealing for throws etc etc. Yes, this can be improved on, it always can be, they can add more animations, no doubt about it...but it's not terrible.

2. I'll agree here. I really feel they can improve on the commentary, have more than just the two commentators too, different people for cup games possibly? They should and could work on this for sure.

3. I think it's actually feeling good in this aspect, very manual if you want it to be. I've not had the shooting problem, if I aim left, it goes left.

4. Keepers can be improved upon, but I certainly feel they've at least had some work. They're still not at the level that they could be, but I am liking some of the new animations they have (catching a power shot and it spills out but still into their safety, I like).

5. There's no such thing as cheating by the AI, I'm not going to have this discussion for the 38453847389743798th time with somebody because they believe the computer is 'cheating' them.

6. I feel the refs can be improved upon in the future, keep them realistic though. I must say I do find some officials to be different though, some games one referee will play it right down the line, while others everything can go against me, I feel they do differ quite a bit. I do like that sometimes wrong decisions go against you...it's annoying at the time, but it's realistic. I've also found there's more fouls this year...which again, is a bit more realistic in places. Can be improved for the future though for sure, just a few tweaks.

8. Could be improved upon down the line, again great how it is right now, things like this can always get better with more work and I'm sure it will do.

9. Disagree. I find the AI finally has loads of build up play and switches style very often. I also notice a massive difference between teams. I play Bayern, they play great build up and utilize the likes of Robben. I play Rangers, they play a lot of long balls. I play Norwich, they get over run by top teams.

Ultimately, this game CAN get better, just like almost any game that has ever been produced. However, I still feel this is probably the greatest football game almost ever created. Things can always be improved upon, things can always get better, but it takes time and work...and you shouldn't always look past the great stuff they have done and just point out the stuff that they can do.

this is biased the animations arent just good enough for a next-gen game and for a ps3 and it has improved but even pes 3 from 8 yrs ago has better animations and you cannot pass around properly and all teams play like barcelona. and how come people like mario gomez skilling up my defenders with stepovers and feints- so unrealistic. players run at different paces and run like chickens and players feet go thorugh the ground and hands go thorugh each other - when players hug, there is not perfect collision between hand and shoulders like when a players hand is touching a teammates shoulder whilst celebrating a goal, they are hugging the air or is going thorugh the players ribcage which tbh isn't good enoug for 2012.
Atleeast fifa act like a more next gen game

1. do you know who mario gotze is
2. do you understand what you just wrote, because players running at different paces is - REALISTIC.

1. i said MARIO GOMEZ who plays for bayern munich
2. players run at different paces weirdly when you start runnning then slow down like they are robots as they can slow down in a millisecond. if oyu don not agree, then yiu are stupid to thimk pes has good animations. everything in pes is too static - they cant even hug or celebrate a goal properly coz of the staticness

look at vidic dribbling like messi LOL

ok i agree about the mario gomez part, sorry... but if you are just going to not going to like something about pes i believe there is a thread for that, secondly this thread is to improve the pes series and not 100% discriminate try using some point 2 imporve the factor, and lastly if you are completely lost i believe this isnt the right site for you.

have a good day sir.

No, that's Vidic running in a straight line and taking nobody on, not Vidic dribbling like Messi.

i'm pointing out the weak points of pes SO THEY CAN FIND WAYS TO IMPROVE - I dont want pes 2013 being the same duhhh. i ain't hating as i didn't offend konami one bit there and just saying if they can fix animation it will be more polished and the better product. Before you write anything, think using your brain (if you have one).
and that vidic video looked like a zombie running with no emotion with extreme close control and i have actually have seen vidic dribble in real life and trust me it is nowhere near like that which is one thing konami need to fix

I will be working to address a lot of the game play problems that is in the game by editing the stats of all players in the game

everytime i make a weak point about pes i'm suddenly called a hater, i mean nemisiskid acts like he doesn't want pes to be improved as he does clearly not want more realism in konami progressive gameplay

try starting your argument with "I would like konami to fix ____ because____." now is that 2 hard. loool this is you pointing out a weak point or is it you just emotionally slandering the game, "...they are hugging the air or is going thorugh the players ribcage which tbh isn't good enoug for 2012.
Atleeast fifa act like a more next gen game" replace the bold with the example of basic feedback setup above.

im not going to critise yet until i get the game, that doesnt mean i dont want the game to be improved, i think it calls for your logica slef check,

1. i havnt called you a hater
2. you havnt said how konami can improve their game, simply if you want something improved you must explain how you want it changed, basic feedback skills.

Some more info on that, what stats will you be editing mostly?

Yeah some more info be good mate?

What I want more of is build up play, I think probably this means that you'll have to take away cards like direct play, and certainly tone down the dribbling accuracy. I'm going to experiment with the stats all this week.

Underneath the bonnet is a rip roarer of a game that is truly addictive, but once again KONAMI's total laziness in tactics and stat making threaten to sabotage an otherwise excellent game.

However, if it just an AI thing on Top Player then the community will have great difficulty in trying to engineer sim like games.

I have been editing the game play of PES games on the PC, PS2 and PS3 since PES5.

I started off using global stat editing on the PC and PS2, then when I moved to the PS3 and due to being unable to edit the option file on the PC, I started editing each player individually so that each team played more realistic.

The last few years games I have made much more challanging. Compared to the default game play, the opposition will have more possession, pass the ball around better and attack and defend in more complex, intelligent patters.

The main thing is getting the balance between defence and attack right. Even with the best teams, you should not have a team penned into their half all game.

I increase the enjoyment you get out of using smaller clubs and also make them a lot more difficult to play against, whilst trying to keep each club like there real team.

I also tweak shooting, passing and the game speed.

From playing the demo, I would say that shooting technique needs dropped. Passing seems ok. I normally also work on making forwards says ahead of defenders if they should relating to the speed of the players. In the demo 1, this had gone too far and all players seemed to stay ahead of defenders. I will look at how this is in the released game and see if it needs tweaked.

This year I will also be looking dribbling more closely as well.

I do all of this by adjusting the aggression, teamwork, tenacity, acceleration, speed, shooting technique, shooting, dribbling speed, passing speed, passing as well as anything else I feel needs changed.
