Hey Konami

A little adivice, reasearch basketball, watch the game and then play 2k12 and I'm sure that will help in the development in pes 2013.

I can safely say NBA 2k12 is the best sports game ever.

EA NHL is really fantastic. I have never played NBA2k12 but have only heard extremely high positive reviews like yours. Some day.

I fucking love NBA 2k12 and I'm not a massive Basketball fan. It's just everything a sports sim in this day and age should be.

It would take them years to better konami or ea!
I think to recreate a good football game is harder than basketball and gridiron.

I'd disagree with that. With NFL, NBA you have to factor in all the different play calling (especially for American Football) and how each individual on the screen will react to it, so each player must follow a specific route. I think there's more, varied animations and collision detection accuracy to capture with the U.S sports. It just feels limited with football games nowadays, it hasn't evolved as much as it should.

From a presentation point of view though, 2k would do a better job than EA and Konami immediately, there's no doubt about that.

I totally disagree that they could produce a better football game experience in there first attempt. You already gave an example why gridiron would be easier to make a game of when most the play has already been predetermined. Footballs A.I is way more active. Presentation isn't going to make me buy a football game, that's why I don't buy fifa. Sure they might improve collision detection but while important in football games it's obviously not as vital as gridiron. So many have tried and failed to make football games, It took fifa over a 10 years to get anywhere near konami. 2k aren't just going to trump them both straight away.

I agree with Mak, gridiron is much easier from a tactical perspecitve because so much more is pre-determined - the blocks, the receiver routes, defensive zones. But gridiron is probably more difficult from a animation perspective because of collisions, shedding blocks, gang tackles, etc.

I sometimes feel Madden has not changed by much other than animations and graphics. Some better defensive decisions have evolved but the offense is still the same. And a damn linebacker 8yards from the QB can still intercept a ball meant to be thrown 25yds downfield. But they have done good at removing defensive backs having eyes in the back of their head that enables them to turn and intercept a ball just because the are there.

I think the items that make football a more difficult game to program/code are the same items we complain about on daily basis. Players not taking passes, not making runs to get open when we expect them to, keeper decisions, overalap, etc.

I need to check me out some basketball. I would be interested on how the game deals with pick and rolls and all that fun stuff.

Of course, not in their first attempt but it wouldn't take them long (or as long as EA/Konami). I mentioned A.I because it is in that department where football games have been poor in recent years. It's not just following scripts, it's reacting to user controlled input, where 2k in particular shines. As for their gameplay, it speaks for itself.

I agree presentation isn't a major issue, but it does add to the overall feel and enjoyment of a game and 2k nail it like no one else. How long have we moaned about the commentary in PES? NBA2k's commentary sounds exactly like TV quality. It's just the extra effort they put into their product that other companies don't seem to share.

Anyway, I very much doubt we'll see them go into football games.

and I also agree with Bishop - presentation. I find that very important. I guess I can live without it but when I have it, I love it. I cannot play PES without an option file, and I am sick of dealing with option files.

EA has already slaved the licenses to knock out the competition early.

Same as they did with madden. Its going to be hard for a new company to make a new footbal game. License isnt the most importent. But for a new footbal game it can be really hard.

and it is a shame, because for all I have read, EA FIFA is not deserving of licence exclusivity. EA killed 2k gridiron and ESPN gridiron with the Madden-NFL exclusivity. Although ESPN didn't put up too much of a fight and now do a lot to promote the game with sim results for big games. They are obviously getting a piece of the pie.
