A question about tactics

You're given four slots to set tactics for each team. Are those there just for the user, or will the AI use those tactics as well?

In other words if I switch Arsenal's four tactics all to counter attack, and then play against a CPU controlled Arsenal team will they counter attack the whole game?

Yes they will.
However they can change formation and players but not switch between tactics so it's always on default tactics 1

Thanks the reply.

Kind of unusual to set it up that way, but it just saved me a bunch of time, as I was going to go through each team to set up their tactics. Now I only have to do it once for each team.

I thought the same but then when I play matches and go on to game plan, they always are still doing there preset strategy

The tactics seem to have a somewhat mild influence on the game anyways, at least when compared to offensive/defensive levels. Yeah, you will see strategy implemented to make teams distinct from one another, but it seems to me the offensive/defensive setting has more impact on what players do.

I am not sure the CPU opponent uses the tactics or formations we set.

Nothing more annoying than playing an offline league mode and when you have a chance to play a marquee opponent the CPU starting 11 has defenders in the midfield and sits the three forwards you were wishing to play against.

The starting lineup has more to do with form I believe.

And come to think of it, the tactics seem to be about positioning rather than actual on field strategy. In other words if you choose "long ball" it won't necessarily result in that style of play, but instead will set up your player's positioning to be conducive to a long ball strategy. So I think the names for each preset tactic are perhaps a bit misleading.

It doesn't have much to do with positioning, more with the sliders - long ball strategy will give you a deep defensive line and average player support. Loose Pressing and low compactness etc.

^ Right, that's what I meant when I said positioning. The tactics control positioning, spacing, etc.

But the AI will still react according to the situation more than it will try to force it's set tactic. So the tactics just give a general framework for a team.

And if the AI needs to change things up it'll use the offensive/defensive levels, as well as formation change.

It kind of makes sense, in a weird sort of way.

The four slots makes it a bit confusing, especially when you are allowed to change tactics on the fly, while the AI cannot.

Am i the only one who actually thinks the tactic aspects in this game are great?

I really love that i can feel the change when i go from quick counter to all out attack during a game. And also love the fact that i have to change tactics sometimes depending on the opponent.

A bit late but........
What does channging attack or defence levels actually mean? What does it do to your team - On tactical settings I put this to NO PREFERANCE but can't tell what this means

It depends on how you have your personal settings set up. I have mine so that player movement can only be controlled with the analog stick. That set up uses the d-pad and trigger buttons to change strategy, etc.

Check your personal settings and it should say there.

Basically it changes the offensive and defensive mindedness. So on 1 there will be extra effort to defend, and on 5 you will have a lot of players push forward including the keeper on set pieces.

I actually recently almost gave up a goal to a keeper that had pushed forward late in the game to take part in a corner kick. His header went just over the bar. Woulda tied the game too.

Hi All

bit of help if you would please, I read this thread regarding preset tactics being assigned to the Dpad, if they are not assigned to the dpad which buttons do you use,

Ive read that its select then the x,o,etc but I thought and have been using them to do the Offside trap, swap wings etc aspect of the tactics. So have I been using the offside trap or actually changing my formation

cheers
