About shooting

Up until recently I've been using the left analogue on my Saitek controller to move because I felt it was more convinient as it meant I automatically curved my shots. A few days ago however I started using the d-pad because I used it on my mates PS2 version and it seems to give you greater accuracy.
Anywho, I have a few questions about what you can actually do to change your shots and what you have to do to achieve these effects:
1. What does the shooting bar actually represent? The height seems to vary depending on shooting situation rather than on how much of the bar you charge
2. Can you fully control curl on shots in open play?
3. My mate tells me if you hit R1 as you shoot you get dip on your shot, are there any other little things you can do to achieve different shooting results?

Cheers for any help you guys give

1. The bar represents the power of the shot.

2. You can control the curl to a certain extent with practice, but I don't know about fully controlling it.

3. To get a really powerful and quick shot, lay the ball off to someone who can sprint into it's path. Hold R1 to make them sprint to the ball then tap shoot, the player will really twat it. You can also hold L1 on your controller and shoot for a more powerful lob shot than pressing R1.

i've been trying to do the lay off but I can't seem to get into a situation where it's possible in real matches, also, is the button to lay off just a pass or should I very gently through ball it?

*This should be in "Hints & Tips"

Ha!
Win a corner. Pass it with :x: to the nearest guy. Once you've taken the short corner, pass backward & to the centre of the pitch with :L1: & :triangle: for a short lofted pass.
Then just tap :square: just as your DMF (according to your formation) runs onto the ball.
This should result in high levels of ball-twatage, especially if it's Gerrard/Davids/Oliseh at DMF, or anyone who's Shot Power is over 90.
Sounds more complicated than it is.
Good luck mate!

Here's an example:

Or if the ball just happens to come out to the DMF after a corner, because of a fucked up header attempt. You only need to tap :square: so the metre is about a quater full or less.

OoOo, ok, at the moment Gattuso is my DMF but he looks like he could get a bit of twatage (nice word by the way) in his shot =D
Cheers

from the field you do not control curve of the ball, only on set pieces and corners do you control that.

the curve other wise is controlled by the particular players skill. as that also affects how the shot meter is interpreted per player...as it isnt the same for everyone

oh ok, I noticed that the ball basically curves on it's own actually. Thanks for the answers
