An ugly game

I just bought PES6, without a chance to play a demo. I decided to write some about this overhyped game.

well, the things i see when i run it for the first time.

There is the same ugly techno pop music from always. Then, because im gonna do a flyby, i just pick an exhib match and play.

So far so good, i mean i know the graphics were gonna be like this, since i read there was no intention from konami to make a next gen game with this. i notice that the animations are still the same except from the additions. you can actually pass the ball better than pes5, but sometimes it takes ages to reach your teammate foot. i try to build some attacking plays, and i see that the AI is the same crap since PES on PS1. They even keep the CPU's crappy defending style (the one in everyone gets in the box and hoof clear every ball). But since is a flyby, i think to myself its just because im getting used to the new playstyle.

Then, after some matches i decide to play some Master League. I choose some team, and im assigned the usual team (you know, castolo, ximelez, etc) and in notice that in the "amateur" difficulty, you can actually have fun with the game, since the CPU leaves gaps and everything in order to you to take advantage. its very easy to take the ball away form the opposition and i scored some spectacular goals. All that was all about lying to myself because i know i had to raise the difficulty a little bit.

So i decided to play a new ML, this time in "regular". And wow, what an ugly game. PES5 is back.

The AI now ignores its own player statistics and every DMF in the game plays like friggin Gatusso. The Slow backs who keeps up with fast strikers is now also back. You cant actually make a good pass or dribble around, and i keep telling myself is ok because when the points come, im gonna buy myself some good players (or at least someone better than the retarded ones that play in my team) but that costs me to play without fun for a very large amount of matches, and since CPU doesnt let you play even a little bit, im forced to practice some ugly football, full of long balls and nothing of class. Is this PES6? Really?

The fact that theres now less fouls per match is a good thing, but the problem is that when you see the CPU is commiting foul after another and no one blows. The game is more unfair than the last one. Im sure that in human vs human matches it shines, but human vs CPU programming just sucks. I didnt even tried the other difficulty levels, so if for a strange reason, is better to play in other level, please let me know.

what an ugly game.

I read the first four words of your post - "I just bought PES6". At that point I decided to stop. Come back with views when you've actually had chance to play the game for 20 hours or so.

I actually think we should give this guy a chance, I also thought pretty much the same thing when I started to play this and he is giving the game a chance to redeem itself. He hasn't come on like most and slag the game off to death and is in no-way going to change his opinion.

I myself have only played this game for about roughly 6hours in total, and i was mad as nothing I wanted to do worked, I thought, right, this year I am going to buy the guide. The guide has helped me change my playing style and things are looking up!

Things do bug me and have always bugged me about the game, like the lack of control whenever your near the touchline, but every year I get addicted to it which makes me play it over and over again.

I've never felt like that, i picked it up and instantly was playing good passing football, scoring good well worked goals, guess some people just gotta get used to it. ;)

Get some more playing time, at first the whole momemntum thing throws you off but once you learn to control it and exploit it in the other team it becomes a very fun element of gameplay. The passing is different too but I've gotten used to it in about 7-8 games

Lucky guys!!! You using "game-pad", don't you?...
Gee... I'm STILL can't use to it. I own a nice (and expensive!) "Logithech DUAL ACTION" and I CAN'T play with it!
My buddies, when they coming to my place to play... they LOVE me for that - because THEY using the pad!

Anyway... To make critic to anything, you MUST "conquer" it first. When you'll KNOW it pretty well, THEN you can say "OK, I've play it... Nothing interesting about it"...
I'm ALSO didn't find the PES6 TOO impressive, I'm STILL finding PES5 (with ALL these great patches installed!) a lot more interesting...
... but let's give to it (to the game) a chance to... prove itself!

I agree, first impressions suck with this game. If i was to judge a game on first impressions or limited amount of time playing the game, i would say FIFA is the best footy game ever!!!!
Which we all know is not true.

FIFA blows!!!!!!!!! btw

i will agreed with everyone here.

give it 20 hours and come back. Also, to me the music are okay, just because it isnt your kind of music, it sucks. I pretty much like the main menu soundtrack though

Ive given it more than 20 hours & it still pisses me off. Although much is better than PES5 its still far from good old fun. I'm sad to realize that the PES series is getting caught up by FIFA.
I hate parts of the Gameplay in PES6 that piss me off & thus make it hard for me to enjoy the damn thing.
Some here are noobs, some are in denial & some dont care.
For me I play both FIFA07 & PES6, PES4 is still in my opinion the best one in its time.. PES dont get better in critical sence & FIFA is catching up.
I wish I could merge fifa & pes to the greatest game ever.l

The gameplay in PES 6 is amazing, it replicates football almost perfectly.

It's pretty obvious you'd decided from the moment you played your first match that you weren't going to like this game and so i'm not going to try to change your mind.

All I will say is that i've played 2 matches so far (on my mates PS2 given my PC's on the fritz) and i'm already hooked. The game is brilliant fun and well worth the £18 it cost me.

My lads (from Greece), in the "www.wehallas.tk", are lost their sleep in this past weekend and GAVE us a "pre-production" OF, with the REAL names of ALL clubs/teams/players/stadiums, with the REAL stats (got import from FM2007) and they gave us the NEW kitserver with quite accurate (90%) teams' kits ("LFC" has the REAL ones, EXCEPT the golden "5 star" logo on the right chest), with updated pitch, camera ungle, "TV channels" logos on the right-up side of the screen, some faces (they working the faces to complete them)... and so!

I found it (PES6), FAR BETTER now... Of course, the REAL PATCH, is still been working to get finished... Don't know when...

PES has been terrific so far, to me. At first, I wasn't blown away, and I had some problems getting used to passing and stuff - not really - anyway... in the end it was the same PES I had always loved - one which is even better. I really feel gameplay has been improved.

I have to agree with Haz-e. The gameplay really does look better than those of previous versions. In response to him who said every DM is like Gattuso I must say I disagree, and moreover defenders do not catch on strikers - as much as in PES 5, at least - and strikers cannot break free as easily as in PES 4. If you want that to come back, you have no idea what realistic football is. What do you think these strikers are to speed as if they were chased by a monster. Moreover who says strikers are generally faster than defenders - that is such a misconception. If a defender comes from behind to catch up with a striker - although this doesn't happen in PES 6 when a significant distance separates defender and striker - you have to consider that it is in the defenders best interest to catch up, and the striker knows it. (He doesn't hope to smoke the defender to score a goal - and it is very difficult in today's football, though not impossible, but the instances of that happening are not to be exaggerated.) Quick players do use their speed to challlenge defenders and force them to step it up so as to catch up with them eventually; however if that one is unable to do so, they will make use of that opportunity to create a scoring opportunity. Yet one has to understand that it isn't a pacy players first intention to run like a torpedo to find the back of the net. I don't need to mention the freedom of movement the defender has in comparison to the attacker who has the burden of moving with the ball.
