Anyone else think there should be a Free Kick Power stat?

Many players in real life have got very powerful free kicks but fairly weak shots. David Beckham is an example of this, He was recorded as having one of the most powerful free-kick shots, but in open play he has a fairly weak shot. The same applies for the likes of Juninho and Pirlo.

I believe that they should add a separate stat for 'Free Kick Power' in PES 2009. Anyone else got any ideas of ability stats that should be added?

I think what this installment really needs is the ability to run backwards to support your pressured team mates rather than just running forward by pressing L1+X

I've seen this in real football especially EPL, for example:

A <-----distance-----> B

Player A gets the ball and B approaches to take it, what A do is pass the ball to C.

A B
|
|Pass
|
v
C

But then C is confronted by D, so what A needs to do to cover for C is make a run backwards(support A) and get ready to receive C's Pass.

(A) B
|
|moves behind C to receive pass
|
v
A<----Pass-----C <----confront----D

This is called support. Normally what we do in PES when we are confronted by opponents is trying to dribble away from them because there is no such system in the game. This system enable us to get more free flowing football. I prefer to see the AI do this kind of thing rather than superbly dribble pass my 5 man defender.

Sheilding of the ball and free kicks as you said would already improve the game.

Makes me wonder, is it that hard to include all this Stats into a Next Gen Football Sim??

I remember in the PS2, Football Sims started off with only some 8 or 10 Stats -then- by 2006 we already had 20 or more Stats.. Why isn't this happening with PS3 Football games??

I thought we would get some New Stats by now.. One that is particularly annoying is the fact that there isn't any Shielding Ability Stat -and- that the Dribbling Ability of a player is summed up by only 2 Stats; Dribbling Accuracy, and Dribbling Speed.

I mean, how generic can you get?? Only 4 Passing Stats, 3 Shooting (Finishing) Stats, 2 Dribbling Stats, barely any Defensive Stats, no Tactical Awareness Stats, no Shielding Stat, etc, etc..

When will Konami UPDATE their Old system of Stats and Special Abilities??

I dont think that updating the stats is a priority now. That will be work for 2011.

I think everything should be a priority for konami. They've had a year to create a game and if they come out with an identical copy of pes 2008 except with 'an all new feature' such as 'adaptive gameplay' or 'diving' (which were neither very good) im sure fans will be left let down. The game needs a total overhaul (except for the core gameplay and master league) with many new features, not just one.

And about the shielding of the ball stat thing, i always thought that the balance stat was the equivalent of this - the ability to remain posession whilst under pressure - although i may be wrong...

Not happening this year mate. Let's hope the gameplay is great

They have already done this - it's called Free Kick Accuracy.

If a Player's Free Kick Accuracy is 90 or above but their Shot Accuracy is 75 and Shot Power is 75 then the Player will still be able to take a powerful free kick. If the Player shoots during normal play then you will notice that they hit the ball with significantly less power.

The Curling stat determines how much curl the player can put on all types of shots including free kicks.

It's been done but I agree that KCET could have made it a bit easier to understand.

The Balance Stat covers for Shielding, Defending, and Attacking Abilities.. It is extremely inaccurate as a Stat.

Most Defenders in PES have good Balance -and- as a consequence most of them are good at Shielding the ball. Surely Konami can come up with a better more accurate system. And also, it's not just about introducing a Shielding Ability Stat -Konami- should also come up with New Controls.

And again, there should be a Stat to cover specifically for Shielding -and- for Marking, Tackling, Defensive Awareness, Attacking Awareness, the list keeps on going...

They need to further Define what a player can do -and- what a player can't do. In order to do that (Like it or not) they need to introduce New Stats.
