Attacking? Can't score

Ok so here's my problem, I'm playing master league on professional level and with the master league defaults. I can defend alright with the occasional stupid mistake but I can't score, can't even get into good attacking positions.

When the opposition attacks I have hardly any players back and when I attack it seems like their whole team is in front of there box.

Is this because the defaults suck or is it because (more likely) I suck?

Thoughts please

I play on Professional too... I guess the key is having a lethal counter attack tactic, that's how I score most of the times.

Yeah tried that, it's hard if ur team doesn't have the pace to pull it off though

I play on superstar with atletico madrid but using manchester uniteds formation, finished 2 points behind real madrid and 7 behind barcelona in la liga, lost in the final of the europa league to a.c milan and lost in the semi's of the copa del rey to madrid on away goals. maybe try using manchester uniteds tactic? (when i play as manchester united the game is to easy, i won my first CL on my first attempt 7-2 vs juventus in the final)

Also does anybody use tricks all the time? Is that the secret to success because they r a bit to complicated to pull off and very hard to remember

Me myself not really. Good passing, running into free spaces and precise shooting gets me nice wins.

i'm having the same problem since ive got promoted, but its extremly annoying, like everytime I attack they are all on their box and they run at the same speed of any of my players so I cannot even reach it with a through pass...
when AI attacks however, ive got 4 defenders on my box, AI sends a through pass, and their forward can run for about 1/4 of the pitch with my defender on his back, even when grabbing him and stuff, he never loses ballance and scores without problems... its annoying.. either my tactic is crap or i just suck too much (im more used to playing with other human than with AI)

The games themselves were dull affairs. I switched the level up to Top Player, and my god, what an improvement! The matches really flowed and I got to the semi finals on the Champions League! A huge improvement!!

I have read elsewhere that playing Master League or BAL is far better than on professional level too.

Has anyone else had this experience? I will be playing on Top Player lever from now on. All the time

not me, maybe i just suck too much, but im losnig most of the games on my ML right now, its damn annoying, ive got around 16 shoots, AI gets 2 in the whole match and i lose 2 - 0.. ive never been so frustrated with any PES...

Don't be too disheartened that you can't score. It's a good thing, it means the game is challenging. Just keep practising and keep trying.

Also whatever team you are playing with, make sure you play to its strengths. That's what's so great about pes, gone are the days you can just run it down the channels, cut it back and score. You have to defend properly, and attack properly. Just keep at at, you'll get the hang of it soon enough!

I think the CPU defence is too overpowering at times they just defend so deep im forced to keep passing the ball around til I spot an opening but more often then not my passes are cut out or my striker is caught up with by the defender when im running through

I play same level with the default squad. Definitely a challenge scoring early on, but I can generally get at least 1 goal a game and sometimes a couple. Here are my tactics.

I play 4-2-2-2 with 2 forwards, an AMF, RM, LM, DMF, 2 CB, 2 SB. I find this gets enough guys forward to create chances, but also provides decent defense. I ditched a bunch of the default tools and picked up most of the better players from the youth team. Wroughlin or something is a left footed CF from youth team and I play him as right side CF. He and my AMF Gallacsza or something score most of my goals.

It's a bit boring at times, but I have to just patiently make my way up the field with a lot of posession play. Eventually I try to hit one of my CF's or the AMF who will be around the edge of the box. I'll hit Wroughlin with a short pass and then immediately make an angled run into the centre of the box with the speed burst and shoot. Score a fair # of goals this way. Also get a few on crosses from the corner as well, but don't seem to make as many of these as in prior years.

well said there, feint or trickery moves do NOT work well according to
my experience of playing ML (on topplayer LV) and usually AI opponent
(shadow defender)will snatch the ball off and launch a counter even you manage to dance past one AI defender, and AI's tackle is dead accurate comparing to mine.

I have not won any fixtures yet in D2 league, LOL

I was getting frustrated at times too, as I kept losing the games...LOL...
I was Barcelona against Newcastle and I still lost..LOL (no disrespect though).
But hey, this game really need a lot of practice and practice. And patience too. You just have to keep on building up your attack...and concentrate on the defence...finally i was able to win a couple of matches on professional level (the latest win Me Spain 3 - 1 CPU North Korea). maybe its my skill LOLx. but i always enjoy the PES game. its just different...there are some little things here and there, but like they said, its just video game. sit back and enjoy.

I have had the same experience. I have played PES for almost 10 years, and in the old ps2 days, I played with top player, and always was a winner.

Now, it's so hard getting past players, I have edited my link feints, so I could go past the AI, but still, it's very hard.

Like somebody said, when you go past the AI defender with a winger, they always catch me, no matter what. Only when I put through balls, then my striker, with a good movement, can run past a defender, but not in an easy way. The passes are cut almost always.

I always have a lot of posession, but I have gotten so frustrated, that my posession has lost sometimes, because of getting angry with my players. It doesn't matter am I, Real Madrid or what, I can't get my players past defenders, it doesn't matter what I use, link feints, double touch or 1-2 touch. It's always crazy.

Drop down a level. No shame in that. You'll still have challenging games - against both weak and strong teams for different reasons (weak teams will park the bus and strong teams will play attacking football).

The CPU counters really well because they can string together a couple perfect passes and a great through ball. The way to defend that is to make sure you have guys back. You can't knock that perfect through ball in when you have someone holding up the play.

* If you are on the attack for awhile you will have everyone forward.

So make sure you aren't dragging people out of position and when you do move forward just try to minimize the number of times you give the ball up easily which enables counters. Don't lose the ball in the middle of the pitch, be defensive on corners when your team is all up etc..
