You're better off trying to get midfielders as opposed to FW as there's too many crappy players in the pool. MF has better players, and you might even get Robben.

I got Di Maria though think that was from day one pack team of the year thing,
Perotti was a decent one, got a keeper Weidenfeller 82 & hes useless... then again I'm thinking that's the keepers in general as theyre suddenly 100% worse on the game than the demo, certainly in online myclub.

My very first player was Nicolás Gaitán (87!; LMF). Yesterday I finally shot my first freekick-goal with him

Also got Miguel Angel Moya (80, TW).

The Gold-Players always seem to come out at 75 points though

Got a golden ball rating player 66!!! Geoff or something. Thought the golden ball delivered players from 75 to 79 rating.

They will have golden ball rating (75-79) when their level is appropriate (~Lvl 30), train them to gain level. At Lvl 50 they can be above 79, but still they will remain golden ball players only.
