Is it my imagination, something going on here! on old versions PS2 etc you used to be able to chase the winger and often slide in and block his cross. Seems much harder, and in fact I suspect that often the defender checks his run "by himself" to allow the cross to happen.

I can say categorically the AI opponent does it - watch next time you go down the wing, appears to have you closed down then stops or changes direction.

I am sure it is happening sometimes online, defender temporarily behaves oddly allowing cross to happen, very frustrating.

I'm not seeing this at all from the AI opponent. In fact, when a defender has me beat down the wing, he will almost always either push me off the ball or make a perfect slide tackle on the ball. I do find it difficult to block the AI's crosses, but that's probably because I'm just not very good.

What skill level are you playing on?
