Bring back the shot power setting!

In previous versions of PES and ISS (I can't remember which ones precisely), I'm sure there used to be a sliding bar to set shooting power and one for the overall game speed.

I used to use this to fine-tune the game to my liking - something I think would answer many people's complaints about both the difficulty of shooting in PES2009 and the unrealistically fast nature of the last few versions (although admittedly 2009 wound that back a little).

In terms of shooting, although i have grown accustomed to it now, the fact that in general you must use only the quickest, lightest of taps on the shoot button (equating to about only the first couple of millimetres of the power bar on-screen) seems really silly to me (and kinda defeats the purpose of having a powerbar at all). It also really limits the range of shooting options you seem to have.

Being able to set tailor the sensitivity of the shooting system would go a long way towards quelling many players' frustrations with the attacking side of the game - especially those who pick it up for the first time or two - IMHO.

Thanks,
ChrisA.

Pes 5's shooting bar filled up slower and it was good. However even that needs to be a bit slower. This makes your skill involvment more in shooting thus reducing the cpu interferance.
As for the game speed. It was in ISS pro evolution 2 (never played the first one). They need to have it like that where you could set the game speed manually.

no it's all about timing and the position your shooting from
some times i just touch the shoot button as you said and the ball goes smoothly into the goal
and some positions, when shooting i fill like 4/5 of the power bar and the ball gets a decent hight (not too high or too low) and a decent angle
it's all about skill and shot technique

^You don't know what you're talking about. Shooting bar in pes 09 fills up too quick for any skill to be present. I mean there is skill, but luck plays a bigger part since it's way too fast to have full control over it.
Pes 5's shoooting bar was really better.

I think Drogba got it right. Practice will better your shots, and I really don’t believe luck has much to do with it.

^Play pes 5 again and see what I am talking about. :) That was a real shot power bar. Pes 6 was not good enough either. Note. I am not talking about the shots. I am talking about the power bar. In pes 09 it fills up too quick thus less skill required to place top corner goals.
BTW, I am only mentioning the bad things in pes 09. I do not hate pes 09 but I am doing this so that maybe they get fixed in pes 2010. ;)

Thanks Shaun7, i agree.

I'm not saying it's impossible to score (i've learnt how to score in PES2010 now), all i'm saying is that I'd like it if the user setting for how quickly the powerbar fills up could be returned. Then we can set it to our liking and everyone's happy. :)

so you are only taking about how fast the power bar fills up well i got nothing to say about it , and u really look bother by my post you need to cool down :)
after all it takes skill to press the shoot button without filling the bar :D

Certainly being able to fill the power bar more slowly would be a good improvement. It does tend to be that the shot bar does mean that you end up with a height bar! I mean its quite hard to hit a hard shot from far out without it pinging off the ball or blazing over. Its a really hard thing to get it to keep low and hard! That is even if you do hold down :R1: or right bumper if your using XBox 360. I mean it does tend to seem unrealist in this respect. Now I can apreciate that quite a lot of shot do tend to either go wide or over the bar but it does seem a bit unrealisticly hard to get things correct. A change in this would be welcome from me at least! A slower filling of the power bar would lead to more accuracy and hopefully a more realistic outcome!

No that's my point though, the power of the shot depends on the ability of the players' "shot power" stat, the bar itself represents height, not power.

To make it too slow would make the game too easy, though it certainly has been too fast on the last 2 efforts

Quote from Konami handbook:
Shooting
Notes on shooting: Press the :x: button to build up the power guage. Release the :x: button when the power guage reaches the desired level, and you player will send a shot towards the goal. The length of the power guage determines the power and height of your shot. Use the directional pad to specify the required direction as the shot is made.

This is a power guage not a height guage! I can see that if your shot accuracy isn't so great your shot will always be on the rise if your shooting from maybe 30 yards out or so but if its closer in then even if you have a weaker shot you should at least still be making an effort on target which the keeper should have to save! I mean even some of the best players with great shot stats put the ball wide or over so I can see it but not as frequently... though Frank Lampard does have a lot of misses as well as goals!

That was direct quote from the handbook of PES 2009 and I think that its been the same with PES for many editions. I would have a look through the book to see that I am right! Its a shot power guage not height! Certianly acording to Konami who actually make the game anyway!
