C. Ronaldo is so overrated !!!

Yawn, what a boring thread. Let me be a hypocrite though by joining the debate...

Someone mentioned Messi wouldn't score 40+ goals in England. Well, neither did Ronaldo. And Messi didn't score 40 league goals in Spain either, so I'm not sure why that point was raised.

And so what if Messi plays in the best team in the world. At the time, Ronaldo played in the best team in the world at Man U. And right now Real Madrid is arguably the 2nd-3rd best team in the world, so I don't buy that argument.

And before anyone raises the national team argument, Ronaldo fails even more in this aspect so save yourself the trouble.

Another thing: Ronaldo isn't exceptionally good at free kicks. I mean he takes like an average of 5 per game, and only 1 or 2 even go on target. Over a season he probably shoots over 200 free kicks, of which only a handful go in. Messi doesn't score as many free kicks but when he does take them, generally they are on target or at least dangerous. Ronaldo's free kicks are much more spectacular, but pure free kick 'skill' I'd say Messi is better.

I agree that Ronaldo's free kicks are not very good right now, but did you actually watch Ronaldo's free kicks at Man United, whenever he had a free kick, you knew that he will score, it was like a penalty too him, so saying that Messi's free kicks are better than Ronaldo made me LOL.
But hey, it's only my opinion man.

Sorry while he was playing in England he scored 40+ goals... Messi has great balance but i'm not sure he can be considered as good as Ronaldo when playing against a bunch of Mickey Mouse teams in la liga... EVERY Premier League team is full of quality players, even Championship teams could compete easily in La Liga.

And he is playing in the BEST team in the world, the team dominated Man Utd not just Messi! And against Arsenal... Well they probably would have gone out if it wasnt for Van Persie being sent off.

He is arrogant but no doubt Ronaldo is amazing. Is he not the Top scorer in La Liga over one season of all time???

Ali

It is happening again
messi's free kicks arent dangerous, they hardly have power!

So?

You can hit a free kick as hard as you want, and see it go fucking miles over the bar or straight into the wall..... where's the use in that? Accuracy is more important than power.

What is even the meaning of this video? Does this video prove anything? I don't think so. So, for you, one bad game from one single player proves he isn't good. What an intelligent person you are, let me tell you.:bravo:

one bad game? lolz..

I love people who don't even watch neither Messi nor Ronaldo and then log on forums and act all smart.

First of all its not one game, thats pretty much an average Ronaldo match, try to dribble and fail most of the time.

Statistics will prove this.

This season CR stats of dribbling

attempted dribbles per game : 1.0
disposessed : 1.5

So he losses the ball more than he gets passed his man, and this doesn't count the times he simply can't get past the man and turns around or passes away, just the times he LOSSES the ball.

Ronaldo is very overrated in dribbling specially from old Man UTD fans that think he still somehow dribbles like his old MU days when he actually was a good dribbler, but nowadays he lost his agility and the defenders read him most of the times, nowadays if he gets past someone its because he simply kicks the ball forward and outruns the defender.

Free kicks is another fine little thing some ppl keep mentioning, but fact is hes not even that great of a free kick taker.

Fact is he takes almost EVERY single free kick, and compared to alot of other takers who cross the ball most of the times he ALWAYS shoots it from every damn position no matter how ridicilous.

That brings me to shooting, yet another fine example of his overratedness, he has like 10 shots per game, EVERY game, if you go through last season stats he had almost over 2 times more shots than Messi in the La liga season.
This means his shooting is either way overrated or his decisionmaking sucks, personally I think its a bit of both.

Then theres also his mentality, he almost ALWAYS disapears in important matches and does nothing worthwhile, except for a few exceptions over the years.

His goal tally is overrated aswell, he scores alot yes, agreed, but how many does he score from all the free kicks he takes, all the penalty kicks he takes and the most important part how many of his goals are tap ins? Go through his goals last season and ul see that maybe less than 10 of his goals last season were invidual non assisted efforts , compare that to Messi which has over 20 such goals and even more impressive invidual efforts like the dribble past madrid players like they are 90 year old grannies etc...

To be honest every expert on the planet aknowledges that Messi is by far the best in the world ATM. But here and there u still see some old fans from MU that have a soft spot for Ronaldo ( some might not even watch him every match like I do ) and then they act smart, even most real madrid fans agree Messi is better even tho hes a midget for them and they hate him ( he scored what 14 goals against RM already? lol ).

So I don't really care about those few people who think this, but its always nice to educate them a bit, so maybe they won't speak such ridicilous things in public and make a fool of themselfs

LOLOLOL

i never understood how people who dont watch La Liga make dumb comments like this.

the explain why these lesser teams have dominated England in the UEFA cup/ Europa League the past couple years

Ive seen Villareal dismantle everton when everton came 4th in ucl qualifying

ive seen sevilla hand it to tottenham
getafe beat tottenham as well

man i could really go on and on but i wont

the EPL is just the same as LA Liga, Difference is you KNOW the players in the EPL because it is marketed better and u watch it all the time.

FOR INSTANCE - David Silva did not magically become great @ Man City nor did Kun Aguero these guys were doing amazing in La Liga for the past 4/5 seasons. But NO ONE PAID ATTENTION to them because
the werent in the super over marketed EPL.

Think about this the best EPL midfielder is now a rotational player at Barcelona, and had to earn his way into the side.

there is a reason the spanish national team is so good on every level, guess youth teams are what they are made up of? a bunch of la liga players!

if you want to say the EPL is a bit more competitive i understand but to say the EPL is much better HAHAA

Are u kidding me, have u not seen how messi has time and time again embrassed man utd. You think he couldnt do that to stoke??

Guaranteed Barcelona could put up double figures against an epl team would would probably try to play them physically and end up chasing shadows all game.

anyway on topic. the ronaldo hate is pointless
messi is the best player in the world, but ronaldo is a ridiculous goal scorer. no need to slight ronaldo to laud messi. 50 goals in a season is nothing to sneeze at.

Lastly what does it matter if Messi scored all those goals in Spain, hasn't he proved himself in the UCL time and time again? You are telling me that in a league where dimitar berbatov can score 20 goals, messi who is twice the player couldnt double that? pleaseee lol

Look how easy it was for fernando torres (WHO SUCKED IN SPAIN) when he first moved over to england. Torres even said it "epl is easier than la liga"

And you really need to get a grip and watch more leagues. Serie A is fantastic too and MUCH more competitive than the EPL.

Did I ever say I didn't watch La Liga? Barcelona are a super team in their own class and would take apart anyone, you cant get the ball from them. But yeah the English teams are better than the Spanish ones im sorry, mostly due to the money in the English game attracts more foreign players. Man City could probably give Barca and Real a run for their money now even, let alone Villareal...

LOL!

40 goals in La Liga last season compared to Messi's 31... Most goals in a La Liga season EVER! But yeah shit player... ;)

lulzzzzzzzzzzz

so CR scored more goals in a inferior league as u call it, yet in the biggest competition possible which is CL

Messi 12 > 6 CR

Now, having that out of the picture, do you actually realize how flawed that 40 vs 31 actually is? I mean you do realize Barca was champ before and Messi didn't even play the last 3 matches instead preparing for MU right? While Real Madrid was SPECIFICALLY PLAYING for CR to break the record , he scored 12 goals in the last 4 matches or something like that lol, most were tap ins because his teammates played for him to break the record lol.

Now before you answer, think about some other things aswell and try to answer them for me

How many of the 40 goals did CR score from penalty kicks vs how many did Messi?
How many of the 40 goals did CR score from free kicks vs how many did Messi?
How many of the 40 goals from CR were easy tap ins and assisted goals vs the ones from Messi?
How many of those goals were individual efforts rather than passes from teammates?

When you can accurately answer all these questions I will congratiulate you because I know the answer, and when you find it out aswell I think your going to be thinking a bit differently than how those 40 goals from CR are superior to Messi's 31.

A goal is a goal though? Not sure what your point is? I think most players would take 40 tap ins over 31 quality goals. When we had RVN he never scored a goal from outside the box, did that matter? Pretty much all were tap ins. I would say he was a better goal scorer than Messi all day long!

Messi has other attributes but I still think Ronaldo is more the complete player.

Would like to see Messi outside the Super team, then ill agree with you. Maybe at Arsenal he could do well, but cant see anywhere else suiting his style of play. He thrives off Xavi and Iniesta's perfect passes. They are the best in the world. I would take them in my team over Messi anyday.

Because based on those 40 goals people like you overrate him, yes 40 goals is a lot and yes it takes alot of skill tap ins or not, and yes Ronaldo is a wonderfull striker but no need to overrate his achievement.

And as far as your Xavi and Iniesta perfect passes , I think you are not watching Barca buddy.
Go check how many assists Messi got for his 53 goals last season and how many CR got, I can't remember the exact stats but I think it was something like 13 for Messi and over 25 for CR.

It used to be like this that messi needed assists to ramp up high goalscoring numbers like 3 years ago, since then Messi became more than twice the player he was while CR has stagnated and is not at the same level as he was at MU. Still a great goalscorer tho but he is overrated by some people who don't watch all his matches.
I watch all matches from RM and Barca and I can without any doubt say that Messi is so far ahead of Ronaldo nowadays it would be hard to believe.. I mean even his playmaking and passing has improved so vastly that I think only Fabregas and Xavi are superior in the Barca team, even Iniesta would have a hard time comparing..

weew..

back to the topic, yes.. cr7 is overrated...
in my save, he can score a goal from just over the kick-off line... WTF?!
and everytime i put pressure on him, he either fell down or got a free kick straight away

back to the off topic discussion,
EPL is all about media... they marketed so damn well, that most people recognised half of norwich or qpr team.... and never even heard of thiago alcantara.

to be honest, i really hope this year UCL final would be madrid vs barca...
so, no one else would called "la liga is 2 horses team" ..... but instead... they would say "europe is 2 horses team" :D:D

ps: you dont really need strength when you have vision and positioning.. remember messi's headed goal against MU?

messi can only dribble - his dribbling is impossible at how he can run full apeed with ball literally glued to his foot with defenders around him. But ronaldo has better goal technique than him - has messi ever scored an overhead or volley from the wings. For a goal scorer i'd go for ronaldo because of his power, accuracy and technique but for a winger or playmaker i'd choose messi because of his passing and close control. They are two different players and shouldn't be compared because they have their own playing style but c.ronaldo is the better all-rounder-
heading/jumping - ronaldo
dribbling/close control - messi
stamina - ronaldo
speed with the ball - messi
speed without the ball - ronaldo
Set pieces/long shots - ronaldo
power - ronaldo
passing - messi
crossing/long pass - ronaldo
Skills(unnecessary) - ronaldo

So ronaldo is the better all-round player but for a guy that keeps play moving or makes the difference in a match i'd have messi

Messi is great but his greatness is a product of the system and players he's surrounded by in Barcelona. What has he ever done on his National team? How many goals does he have for Argentina in World Cup play, Copa America play? I believe that answer is zero. As far as being overrated I think both players are overrated in the game, especially Ronaldo, he's a total beast!
