Can a psp be used as a ps3 pad?

I have searched on this forum and on the internet in general and i cannot find the answer to this question.

I downloaded the newest firmware for my psp, took it to my friends house where he has his PS3. We followed what it said to do on the ps3 screen and managed to get 'remote play' working. This meant that i could see the ps3 screen on my psp and i could watch his videos and listen to music he had on his PS3. I pressed 'home' on the psp and it gave a few options. I pressed the second one down and a little icon came up at the top of the psp sreen. It was a control and then the number 2 next to it. This made me think it could be used as a pad. Why not? to be fair - it is wireless has all the buttons etc.

The reason why i cant check for sure is that my friend only has Motorstorm (what a game) and this is only one player. So i think that if you have a 2 player game, maybe there is an option to find other pads within the game and this is when i can use my psp. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks.

mebbe but ps3 pads have sixaxis, psp doesnt,it has 2 analogs psp has 1!so if it was i would presume it would only be compatible with certain games, kinda like a non analogue ps1 pad can be used on ps2 but only on games like pes coz for example a 1st person shooter requires analog!would be a nice little feature, but is that motostorm only 1 player,is it not just a racer,if so its a bit pap that its 1 player!!

IM STICKING WITH MY XBOX!!

Thanks for the response. I see what u mean about what the psp lacks. But i am sure i heard that this could be done.

Motorstorm is only one player, which is bad but it is still one of the best games i have ever played. My friend reckons it is just a show off of the graphics and new features. Sony made the game so it looks like it is just a game about the graphics and gameplay. There are a lot of things missing - Only 8 tracks, no multiplayer (unless u go online). online ranking system is not good, no replays, only one game mode etc.

But anyway if anyone knows about the psp as a ps3 pad thing - please respond. Thanks

I'm sure that i read in a magazine that the psp would only be able to eb used as a secondary screen, possibly as a rearview mirror in racing games or whatever. Dont think that it could ever be used as a stanalone controller in a game, could be used for some extra button functions wgich they couldnt fit into the ps3 controller.

Thats what i must have heard - the rearview mirror thing. your probably right that it cant be used as a standalone control. oh well. £35 for a control then...
