Can I make one of my forwards a target man?

I recently bought andy carroll in MLO, and basically all i want him to do is head the ball, on net or to my other players in the box, but he doesn't seem to want to stay in the middle...are there any settings i can go to that can make him just stay in the middle and not go out wide or drop back?

tried this myself with a big CF target man, but they always seem to run about when i don't want them to, I caught the lanky bugger defending at one point and as I only play 1 up front there's no outlet when i win the ball back

Dont know if this will work for you, I have Carroll right at the top in CF role and Suarez right at the bottom where it allows for SS. I'm playing some really effective football now and am using the long ball up to him to head and flick more than ever. Took a while to get used to, but he can start some lovely moves off once you get the hang of where and when he'll be in a good position to receive a flighted ball.

Other than that I haven't got any other foolproof way of making him stay in one sole position.

yeah i tried pushing him all the way up top, but he won't stay there. its a shame really, when he's actually in good positions he's so beast with his headers, but most of the time he comes short for it which drives me nuts...

I was really started to get pissed off because of this as well. I crossed from the sides and my tank centerforward wasn't in the box but my tiny ss was there getting beated by the 190 cm tall defenders. Then i realized it was because i dribbled too much around on the flanks back and forth before crossing the ball in to the box.

Now i play 1-2's with the winger and the sideback to get a decent chance to cross. When i get down the flank i pass immediately holding R2 (ps3 - may be T2 on xbox?) and double tab O button. Then they seem to go for the centerforward on crosses - if you play like this:

-----------CF------------
-------------------------
----------SS------------

Try it out - it works great for me

if you always see a the small ss in the box and not carroll, why don't you just swap the tiny ss with carroll so it could be carroll in the box

I get my target man to stay where he should by, making him man-mark a central defender. Hope this helps. I always do this anyway, especially with forwards and strikers that have trackback skillcard. :)

I'd imagine your player support setting would factor huge in how this works. Dribble around the box, and there's a chance your CF (fxking Ordaz) comes to support you. Maybe playing narrow/long-range support would do more to keep him "at home" in the box?

Just throwin' sh*t at the wall, seeing if something sticks.
