I started with the Master League real players in Wolverhampton Wanderers, went onto get a decent couple of players, went through nearly 4 seasons already, now the fifth. First 2 seasons were like getting the hang of the game and the team, so i had lost a few matches and held onto the 11-13 position on the table. But later things started getting better as i moved myself to the 7th on the table gaining places to the Europa League and all.

This is where i noticed something funny. (p.s I play on Autosave ON and Hard Mode)

The first time i was in the Europa League, i got through but faced Auxerre in the Round of 32 Knockout. The first game was at home, and i was suprisingly thrashed 3-0. I went away and scored only once, so lost out on that, thought i will get it better the 'next year' after i make some much needed signings.

So, now this season, with a great squad, lots of free signings, including strikers Remy(rated 85), defenders (88s) and a few others with good ratings, i managed to get through the qualifying league almost easily, and was to face Girondins de Bordeaux in the first knockout. I noticed that they had Klose and Balotelli up front. I lined up the best of my players and thought i might make it good. But frustratingly NOT!!!

They seemed to brush past my players with no resistance at all, whatever i do. If they score and i equalise, within 5 minutes they score 2-3. I just dont know how that happens or is supposed to happen.

I reseted the game under frustration (first time i am doing so). On the retry, i notice the same thing. Klose is damn fast and plays like messi and nearly impossible to stop. Balotelli just keeps firing long rangers, and when i score, i dont get the ball back until they score thrice, after which their Strategy changes to defense. :(

I reset the game 4 times now (wanted to check if it was coded to happen like that).. same thing happens.. I had noticed this before when i played Liverpool and Arsenal in the league. They seem to score almost freely, if i score first or equalise. The first time i noticed it, i thought it must be the spur-of-the-moment. But later on i realised i am actually being riddled upon.

And my fastest players (Speed and acceleration in 90s) are overtaken by total losers in speed... i cant believe that it just happens in crucial cup games and stuff.. Is this top class scripting or what... :(
even if i line the whole team on defense, they score.. whatever i do, they score, and when i try to do something in their box, they run me down..sliding or knocking over and no foul, no penalty and no card.. damn!

sometimes i think there is against certain temas like arsenal i mostly feel cheated when i play them and also stoppage time like 0mins added on unless the cpu has the ball and untll you tackle them near the half way line then it will just go on but if you have the ball it the ref can blow instantly.

but if your playing a hard team try to use the tactics like defence line team preasure it might help sometimes it does for me.

like cruijff says:

you just have to score one more goal than your opponent..

true... :D

but what if the opponent (CPU) is also having the same idea?? :p
and i forgot to mention one thing.. i noticed that half their players are on red in fatigue.. i mean, the last drop of stamina left and they are running around like cheetahs...even their goalkeeper, who is at the moment making super human saves... :O

The A.I. cheats in this game probably more than any other. But, what can you do. I usually slide tackle if they start one of their patented "track runs".

Yea... me too.. i 'take them down' ... ending up with red and yellows.. they never get carded if they do that to us btw..

I lost 2 nil playing Liverpool (1st game of the season) the game I swear to God was heavily scripted. Some of my best strikers were firing blanks but rated (90s). Unbelievable!!!!!!!!! Atleast 37 games remain. Also I hate the way team ranking is done (once every season) Rated 118 from 141 but finished last season 2nd to Arsenal and finished last four of CL and to add insult to injury I won the FA Cup.

Yea... not just blank shots, but the passes, crosses, defending just don't stick.. and to mention the superhuman goal keeping...its like we are wasting time playing a game/match where we have no influence over...

i stopped playing for 2 days now.. want to get over it, so the next time i play , i HOPE i WONT NOTICE... :(

Think it's sad that we're actually seriously talking about cheating in a computer game :) But i must admit i've experienced some quite strange games myself as well.. All though i don't know if i would call it cheating - even though it IS a japanese game.. :)

But do we really mean that we think Konami has created the CPU playing style to cheat sometimes?

Absolutely, without a doubt, in all PES esp ML, the AI CHEATS CHEATS AND F--KIN CHEATS

We all know the drill: 1-0 up, 89th minute corner, chance of AI scoring is like 50/50.

centre backs doing cryuff turns bringing the ball out of defence.

Richard dunne catches messi from behind with a 3 metre head start.

Not as bad in 2010 as in earlier years, in 2009 for example I remember you could easily see the AI magically zoom past players like it was going 50% faster

The AI always plays better in Europe.

I beg to differ on this.

I find the damn league harder than when I play the Europa or Champs League. I was Burnley in my 2nd season playing in the Europa and I finished top of the table in my Europa Qualifying. My players were pretty much like sh!t but still I managed to beat most of the teams. :D

ive noticed very little scripting, if i lose its because ov me

I agree to a certain extent. If I lose, it's usually cos I lost patience. Someone has a thread about patience being a very important element in determining whether we win or lose games. When I lose patience, usually, I just pass the ball to my wingers, make them run like mad and then see them lose possession or in the odd chance that I am lucky enough to cross the ball into the net, it will usually be cleared. If however my build up play is patient, I will usually find a player in space and usually I will end up scoring and winning. However, there are times when I am chasing games albeit patiently and my player is in loads of space and then what he does next will leave me flabberghasted. That's when I think the cpu 'cheats.'

oh there's no doubt it "cheats" anyone remember konami tecmo bowls? reminds me exactly of the same thing. but, i have to say i actually like it. makes the game more interesting.

you can feel it when it's a game that is going to "favor" the computer. but the cool thing is that you usually get a few chances and have the opportunity to control your own destiny. but if you make a dumb mistake, it's over.

my recent experience:

i've been putzing around in D2 with a master league players original team on professional for a few years finishing about 9th last year. then this year out of nowhere i started the season 18wins 1 loss and 3 draws. everyone's open and it's all so easy. then out of nowhere the computer clamps down on me creating a forced 3 game losing streak basically. i feel i had chances to win these games, but they were totally out of line with normal games. was getting outshot 14(8) to 6(4) and the like against teams in D2 ranked 15thish and all games were at home. there was no room and no one open and the computer was swarming me. anyone who thinks there isn't cheating is joking or hasn't played the master league. the next game was against a decent rangers team and i held them easily to 0(0) shots haha. the computer wanted me losing streak to end and it seems they overcompensated.

i even tried changing my tactics and playing some different players but didn't help obviously. but i agree with the idea about patience. sometimes the game feels out of hand and i try kicking it around the back line a bit to try to slow the pace and regain my composure. haven't really found success with this exactly but i like to try it. usually their super powered forwards just end up stripping one of my defenders and go 1-1 with my keeper hah

anyway, i feel like the cheating is actually more blatant this year in a way. even using super cancel my player can get kinda sucked in to running a completely different way than i'm directing him. don't remember that happening before.

I've never had any problems with the AI.

I've played EVERY PES and ISS game on PS1, PS2 and PS3. I just think it is beautiful football, where stuff happens at the last minute.

And this year I went over to the Dark side and bought FIFA 10. And it's safe to say that the AI in PES is WAY, WAY better. Believe me, this is as good as it gets.

When I see that teams are gathering momentum and building up some incredible offensive runs I just focus on taking away the passing options, rather than try to tackle the ball away from the dribbler.

Don't know if it helps.

Funny you mention the darkside.

Was at a mate's at the wkend and we went and bought FIFA 09 for £18, and put in about 15 hours on it - England to world cup glory on coop etc etc.

Suffice to say, the AI was up and down. It was on Pro...not even the 2nd best or best AI...and they were on occasion impossible to best. Largest victory - 7-2: England v New Zealand. Lost 4-0 to Norway in the next game.

For 2 FIFA newbies playing coop, was just tragic to see the AI walk through the defence.

That said, it was a super smooth experience. I may just buy both FIFA and PES from now on.

So back to my PC, and loaded up PES. It just looked sooooo old school shabby. However, the immense shooting and the end-to-end-ness was a refreshing difference to the midfield wallowing of FIFA...was playing as Liverpool against United, Stevie G on a down purple, so subbed off at 60min.

0-1
1-1
2-1
last minute of extra time, impossible run through all my defence, shoots, gets blocked, one defender controls the ball and immediately gets knocked over by my other defender, centre back "clears" it straight to Rooney's feet...all of 4 yards away, he controls, shoots, in OFF THE FRIGGIN POST.
2-2
Lose on penalties.

Ok, I was rusty and gave away a cheap first goal by backing off Berbatov til he pinged it into the bottom corner from 30 yards...but after that my 20 shots produced TWO goals, their 2 shots got them 1 more. Grrrr.

I agree that patience is needed in pes 10 . I find it strange though when a team like Brondby give me a more difficult game than Madrid! It makes it interesting though. I aint a tactical genius but I find that pressing the ball no matter how long and mixing my passes seems to help in tough games and the A I does sometimes make mistakes if you keep doing it. Keep going though .
