Close Range Free Kicks

I'm not sure whether anybody has ever suggested this before but I find that when I take free kicks from close range (i.e. 16-18m) I have more joy using the circle button (lob) than the square button (shoot).

There are two methods that I use.

1) Over the wall - If you aim approximately a yard inside the post that the goalkeeper is not covering, tap the circle button and then hold the direction button up + left/right (depending which side you are aiming at) so that the ball is curling away from the goalkeeper you can usually get the ball over the wall and down again just below the crossbar. Unfotunately the ball travels quite slow and the keeper sometimes gets to it in time but I have quite a high success rate.

2) Around the wall - If you have a powerful free kick taker (eg Beckham or Roberto Carlos) it is possible to drill the ball hard and low into the corner of the net that the goalkeeper is covering. To do this aim just inside the post and give full power using the circle button. Hold down the directional pad down +left/right and sometimes you can get the ball past the keeper before he reacts.

I prefer method 1 but have had some success with both - certainly more than I get using the shoot button from close range.

Those do work and are useful.
But the over the wall circle sometimes just chips it too high.

For a shot with Square from short range, hold Down and build up the power to just under half.

i find that if you have a free kick (20-25 metres) use []. let the bar go to just about half way and hold triangle. it brings the ball down quicker.. or

aim directly at a gap in the wall furthest away from the keeper but so ure about a yard away from the post and let the bar go to halfway. these are just my opinions.

forgot to mention push up+left/right according to which side ure on(this is for the first free kick type)

Even 4 close range free kicks i hav found that holding up+right or left for curl is best. if u hit it around half power it doesnt matter whether u hold up down or nothing but holding up gives it the extra power to beat the keeper.

on the anolgue sticks the left one i hold that forward and its puts speed and dip on the shot which if on target the keeper will find hard to stop.

If you're playing a mate who uses the 'circle method' for close range free kicks, hold down triangle to bring your keeper out and he saves it 99% of the time

Whenever I have a free kick right on the edge of the area, I aim the ball between the furthest two defenders in the wall from the goalie (as long as they're in line with the goal), hold the left analogue stick up then tap [] quite sharply. The ball flies through the wall and the keeper doesn't stand a chance. It can be tricky to pull off, but is always my most successful free kick from this kind of range. I pull it off all the time in training, but i think only once in an actual match with Schevchenko for AC Milan.

ok listen up everybody the best way without a dout its soooooooooooo easy is when about 20-25 u put the bar up middeam and press down on the arrow key then it will chip up then loop down its brill technique and if ure on the left then get a right footer to take it and position your angle so it looks like its gonna hit the corner post and then curl it in aswell its deff the best method!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For free kicks at the edge of the box, aim for the side of the goal that you can see, on the right hand side use a left footer and vice versa, get someone with high shot power.

Press L2 and make a player lay it off, then shoot with the bar half full and it will go in! Works a lot for me!

has anyone tried under the wall free kicks? they can work if the wall jumps and you tap the button light enough.

for a while i shoot 40 freekicks a day in training mode, using these methods. At first it is very frustrating, now, I can score 1 freekick out of 10 for 34-28m, 1 out of 5 for 28-20m, and 2/3 for 20-16m. Although not impressive, I still feel like i improved a lot. the point of this, it takes A LOT OF PRATICE, 40 freekicks at day at first, after you get the hang of it, try 15 a day so you dont forget (that's happened to me, I forgot half my freekicks after not practicing for 2 weeks).

Just something interesting, When Beckham is young, he pratice 100 freekicks daily.

can you actully drill a free kick very low on the ground??

You can't "drill" it but if you're very close to the edge of the box, if you press ^ and O (if you're on playstation) very, very lightly and hope the wall jumps then every now and then it'll roll under the wall and the keeper won't get down in time to save it.

I'd only try it if i thought i'd got the game wrapped up though. My brother luke is a master at it.

Yeah man I try this every so often, I first did it when I was playing a 2v2 game online and the guys we were playing brought down Rooney right on the edge of the box, the game was tied at the time and there wasn't much time left. Beckham stepped up and normally I would go for powering it top corner but my free-kicks had been hitting the wall all game, I suggested it to my mate that I try going under the wall and he agreed - straight in the bottom corner just shaving the post....... Excellent!!!!
I was hoping our opponents would comment about it after the game but they disconnected immmediately , ha ha losers.

Only ever done it twice since though.

In WE10 you can only score with these. No more "lob" goals and drill shots are rarer. That could be a sign for PES6.

try holding R2 and hold the direction of the goal then aim way past the left or right post and hold the [] till just over or under depending on how far out you are and press /\ worked for me ealier
