So, it seems I am not alone in suffering with the new shooting learning curve. Therefore I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to the agony that is the 1v1 etc...
Mainly, how do you score?
I'm kinda looking for tips omitting the top strikers, they have the technique to score even if the user is crap on not.
Personally I've just spent a bit of time in the Free Practice (with Napoli, hardly a World Class strike force) trying different combos and chances, here's what I've learnt:
When 1v1 - It's best to sprint until the edge or just before the edge of the area then change direction by 45deg. (this I think alters the channel at which the AI decides where the GK will be, thus increasing your area of goal to hit) then as you shoot use the R2 button to keep the shot low, so far I am finding I hit the net 50-60% of the time which isn't great, but yeah.
Another option is to round the keeper, self explanatory really.
The other option is to open the players body up by quickly changing the direction of the pad and then double tapping (as mentioned, a lot, by another user) this seems to keep you from killing the birds.
Another thing I've found is if you use a lofted cross (again crossing while holding the R2 button) a simple bit of re-positioning of your player and a tap of the shoot button will 90% of the time challenge the goal keeper, (if you beat the defender that is) if you're not in BAL then this is the only way to cross imo.

I usually score nearly all my 1v1's by running across the keeper for example from left to right and then shooting to the left post, or vice versa. I use R2 to tuck it low and go for accuracy not power. Seems to work for me, been doing it now for a few years.
Ok, first of all I'm playing on PS2, so I am not sure it will work on last generation consoles...
I have found very effective in an 1v1 situation: when you are running in direction of the box (only the keeper is there) normally you have one or two defenders running just behind you. They will somehow push you and make harder any attempt of scoring. What I've done in this situation is - just before the box - I stop my player (leave D-pad in neutral position+R1) just for 1 sec. The defender will collide with you player and then you can go on in direction of the goal. The defender will not bother you (he will be far behind).
As you run to the 1 on 1 take your finger off sprint and shoot as the keeper rushes out then quickly tap R1/Rb and it will do a little chip over the keepers legs works at least 8 out of 10 maybe more imo. you can even add direction if your quick enough. top tip.
When 1vs1 use the r2 button to place the shot.
I still haven't figured out what to do in 1v1 situations in BAL, but thats because my player is terrible, no speed and technique. Though when using a skilled striker, I usually go for the simple kick feint and quick change of direction. That works for me.
I use the R2 when I'm 1vs1 with keeper. I can score more than 50% of the time. The R2 really does work and it's awesome.
To make a voley and not aheader, you have to time the shoot well. You have to press the shoot button at the right moment, when the ball is about to hit the ground or when it bounces.
