I connect my pc to a tv using this s-video cable:

or here

The pc came with a little adapter which allows this cable to connect to the pc (the graphics card), as it will not go on it's own. Using this cable (make sure it is gold-plated) gives great quality picture.

Zygalski to the rescue once again. You're a true legend mate.

Hang on! Where do I obtain one of these beauties?

They are readily available from all good electronic goods shop, i i think maplins may have some. Make sure the cable you get is long enough to reach the computer port to the tv port. BTW these will not give you sound output so you'll be playing on ure tele whilst listening to ure laptop sound...unless you get a phonoplugs-headphone convertor thing and plug that into ure laptop or if ure laptop has phonoplug port (the red and white ports-nerly all tellys have em) then that will give you the sound output, if you needed it.

Im not too sure on the price of these cables now, i remember seeing some for £40 for like 1 metre or something stupid a while back!, i got mine free from someone who didnt need it :D

when i try that, the picture on the tv seems funny, its not as smooth as it is on my laptop screen. maybe something to with the frequency or frame rate?

I've got a 32" Wide LCD, so I connect it with a VGA or DVI cable. Works sweet as hell, and I only use my 5.1 PC set for sound anyway. But the S-video cable he showed you is your best bet if you have a normal tv, expect possible resolution problems though, you might have to fiddle with your graphics card settings.
