Controlling team mate off the ball

does anyone use this new feature to control an off the ball team mate with the right stick in play, cos i just cant get the hang of it online, the game is too fast and compact to have time to control another team mate apart from set pieces when it comes in handy. I can see what konami are tryin to do with it and it would create a new way of playing but online it just isnt happenin, for me anyway.

i use it but only assisted because it's way too fast for manuel. assisted is great if you want a striker to play off the shoulder if the last defender or your sb isn't overlapping and it is great to start off counters. also if you can hold -up play well trust me you will be great at this feature.
i use it frequently as i want my cf to run forward but then i have to time my through ball so he isn't offside. practise it on amateur mode one exbihiton if you are useless at it as you'll learn when and how to use aswell as timing it perfectly

If I could learn to keep one eye on my controlled player and one on the "off the ball" player I would probably try but have not had the time and space to pull it off online. I need to start learning because soon I will be left in the dust on this feature.

It bothers me to hold the R3 stick in while controlling. I always release it when I choose a direction for the assisted player. I have never excelled at the R3 stick in and movement for any video game. Wish I could change it to hold R2 and control with R3 or something like that.

ironcity, use assisted.
imagine you have the ball in the center circle with no opposition players ahead of you apart from a defender marking, say, cahill all you need to do is just point r3 to cahill who you know where he is so you know he is on a run.
See - you don't really need to pay much attention to other players or worry about losing your conecentration while pressing r3(all it need is just a quick push)

go to system settings, then button configuration then button configuration. when you go on to that, it'll say teammate controls and then it'll say manuel. press right to change it to assisted.

Remember assisted is always going straight for 3 seconds

that is a good suggestion. Maybe I can get good at assisted first and then try that confounded manual hold-R3-down business. I do want some diagonal movement however. those angles have been the beauty of 2012 for me.

i can understand why you want players to run in diagonal lines so they can create chances and terrorise the defence. but using assisted in pes can sometimes make the defender lose his footing or accelerate slowly as he won't know about the pass whilst your striker will and can recieve it. whenever i you use assisted, the defenders will lose track of the forward.

But in the end, ironcity, it's all about chance = if the defender's gonna get there before the attacker or the attcakeer before the defender

^ All though it can be difficult to actually control the desired player using unassisted, if two players are close to each other etc.

try the offense chellenge mode as that contains a lot of teammate controls assisted or manuel. It may sound boring and long but is addictive and you can hammer i some of your time with it. i've only completed the first challenge and after i wake up i'll straight away to the 2nd level.

I control the second player on manual. And have zero pass assistance. I took a week off online and got it down pretty good. Have been able to use it in my last few games, very good at making decoy runs to give my ball carrier space it helps pull the opponents players away when they are AI controlled. If I'm going to pass to that runner it will be generally in wide areas. I have not been able to get to the point in being able to select say my cf when I'm controlling my rb to start making a diagonal run as the person who I choose is usually the closed player to the direction I'm going. It could be a really great feature the better I get with it.

does anyone know how to stop the passer doing unecessary step-overs when you're setting the runner on his run?
The number of times I've had a winger, pointed at him, pressed r3 to get him to run, but then when I press pass for the man on the ball to release the timed ball he's too busy doing step-overs that either result in being tackled or the eventual pass is far too late.

I think its because for some reason r3 isn't exclusively dedicated to off the ball runs, but it can also be used to do pointless step-overs. Is there any way I can switch off the stepovers? They don't help at all as other buttons can be used to do pretty much the same thing

i know exactly what u mean m8.... happens to me now an then, think its just the way i press R3 down, cos if u do a circle with R3 that makes him do a step over

I use it a lot, And its a good weapon if used properly. I must admit though sometimes when im in deep concentration mode in a game, I suddenly start to forget about it!

You need eyes like this guy to be able to manually control the second player.

^ Haha so true ! :) The most annoying thing is when two players are close to each other and i press R3 and i don't get control of the desired player.

That is indeed me. Fully manual control of second player, Does screw with your mind. Takes a lot of getting used to especially when your still getting to grips with defending etc
