Could anyone give some Defensive Tips!?

Hi. Ive been playing PES4 ML 4* for a while now. I win very narrow and rarely lose. What is making me bald is that there are plenty of tips on attacking and special attacking moves but not so many for the defence.
Can someone tell me a few tips on how to take the damn ball from the AI/CPU the way the CPU/AI easily take it from my players!?
I do use the square to get help and soemtimes even have 3 on one AI/CPU but they are just slippery as ice no matter if they are Vierra, Ronaldinho or some shmock with no ability over 50!!
I wanna learn how to do the things the CPU/AI does!? The dragging, pushing and tripping of my players from behind till they loose the balance and ball!! That stuff!! How can I glue myself to them so they cant get away!?
Please help before I go bald!!
Thx in advance

when the com is sprinting downwards, dont run up to tackle him. what i do is i run backwards, meaning towards my own goal with him. this doesnt give the com an opportunity to turn you easily. when he slows down to shoot or pass then go for him. sliding is always the best

Try Man to Man marking. Edit your defender position in such a way that the two dots (you and your opponent) on the position edit screen becomes one.
Select Man to Man marking and then Aggressive. If you are playing with 2 central defenders and 2 side defenders, do likewise for all. Believe me, it does help.

try to stay on ur feet 4 as long as poss and just hold em up til u get more players back. as 4 keepin the ball try one-touch passin and zip it around abit

My advice would be to try and anticipate where the CPU is gonna pass the ball
or you could try running side by side with the player but leaning into him in the process as some player can be pushed off the ball but this sometimes ends in a foul

have two big CB, make them play the wings by placing the player inside the wing so its the only place they can go, never run towards them as they will turn you, if they cross your CB should be able to deal with it, if they pass it back ward do the same untill u can get cover to make a changle then make a couner attack

There are a few things here that I havent tried so Thx for the tips!
But it seems to me that there are not many technical (one on one) ways of disturbing the CPU/AI while defending but instead more tactical ways which is ok and should work but I would have like to be able to the things CPU is capable of. I hope the future games will have some improvment in that sense.

Does someone know in which way the CPU improves when going up ex from 3* to 4* etc!? I get the feeling that their abilities improve, I play with Barcelona and feel other teams players are so much better in everything no matter if they are Bolton, Istres or Milan!?

Im gonna get busy and try some of the tips!

I often plays with 5 defenders, 3 big CB (Kompany, Pique, Knight, Graham, etc...) and 2 little quick SB. When you Edit their position put them nearest to your goal. They will always stay in defence. Except with a corner, always one defender who comes upfront. Don't know if there is an option to cancel this. When you are example 2-0 winning, take the magical strategy (for me) Defence Only.

Don´t proceed to 6 stars.

The intire level is based on the CPU getting every situation(like a defencive duel) in his advance, just to make it harder. I usually win against 6*, but don't like playing against it, because it's frustrating that it get's everything in it's advance.

You have it in 4 stars to, but way less. You must just be smarter than the CPU(Wich isn' t very hard on 4* really...). You will make it, when you play some more games, you anticipate easily on what he does...

I tryed the man marking but my players still are several meters away from the player who they are suppose to man mark when ex they recieve a pass.
I notice the CPU is always standing and breathing down your neck when I receiving a pass or so.
And while we are at it I need some pointers on heading, corners or free kicks. I would like to know how I should act when heading, I keep heading over the goal, which direction should I press with d-pad. I havent fully got a hold of the direction of D-pad to push when shooting or heading to get it more on the goal. how is it configured!? what is up down left or right!?

Just the way it's abvious...

You head lower when the ball you receive is lower, so always give a cross with doubble circle, wich is a lower cross. Think about this with corners and stuff to.

The way your D-pad goes, pretty much only decides wich corner it will go in, and sometimes not even that...

:square: may pull too many players to the ball leaving gaps elsewhere.

To get rough when chasing a runner in possession, try using the shoulder buttons (on the PS2 controller anyway). R1 mostly, but try R2 as well.

They seem to make the defender bump, barge, grab, and foul players in possession of the ball. It isn't pretty, and don't try it in the box because it a lot of foul play, which will cost free-kicks, bookings and penalties.

Check the long explanations of different defending styles (CV - picks up runners, ZN - holds to a space on the pitch, MM - Man-to-man, normal or aggressive). Look at the Team Strategies - Back Line, Defence style etc.

To improve tackling a runner coming at you, try dropping off a pace and then go in, tackling with X.

More risky is taking manual control of your player's movement (R1 + R2) and trying to intercept passes, by nipping in front of the intended recipient. Trouble is, if you miss it often leaves you caught on the wrong-side of the attacker, and they're clear through on goal.

Too many variables to cover...it doesn't really work like FIFA, thank God.

Think about the TIMING for shots and headers, just as they arrive - that generally gives much more power and accuracy.

Try to take player's shots IN-STRIDE, or FIRST-TIME when running on to the ball, much more power, though not always the accuracy.

For free-kicks they say 'up' on the d-pad gives more power, I tend to think the same goes for shooting and heading - but that's just my own intinct.

I saw a magazine-tip for corners - holding R2 when heading allows the player to get more leverage, and direct the ball down. Never really worked for me.

ALL the Training routines are worth going through, right down to the individual moves, especially the authorised 'moves' and 1-5* star training sessions.

Player (defending player) positioning is important, whether you intend to use square, x, circle or R2 to tackle.

How should I position my players in a man to man marking in order to breath down the Cpu´s neck!? My players are still far away during man to man marking!

The most important thing of all(which I'm surprised no one has mentioned)is to pass markers on,and not allow your defenders to be dragged out of position, leaving empty spaces.....also,it's important that you sort out you individual arrows etc. pre-match,or players could drift.....don't over-commit,and use the offside-trap strategy when possible.

Go to strategy and set up a offside trap or something like that, if that doesn't suite you mate try what cadburyho said and try man to man marking or covering!

well,if you've ever played amateur football you'll understand this; if the left winger runs over and overlaps the right winger, don't follow him with the right back, switch over, and allow the left back to deal with him.....in other words, use zonal marking in a manual way.
