Seems to be a Problem with the import of 2012 data and the DLC .
Did you import data from the previous version of the game?
I'm working with some other guys on the Abstruso OF for the german version and evertytime we download the DLC the game becomes very unstable and crashes nearly every time we go to edit mode or try to use edited teams in friendly match mode.
After deleting the DLC everything works like a charm.

Yeah, i've loaded pes2012 option file as I have 600 kits.

I can't delete the DLC as the game then doesn't startup correctly... I lose all of the edit files.
This is ridiculous!
In fact, I just realised it only seems to crash when I try and edit an imported base copied player from PES 2012.

Hmm, interesting, I think I base copied a few to change the hairs etc, but I chose not to import face data or anything, just the kits and league names/emblems.
Mine has crashed twice already though, once whilst editing my avatar - I finished it, went back to chose background, pose etc, and the image never popped up and I couldn't select anything or go back. I can't remember when the other one was.

Unbloodybelievable. you would think that the amount of money this series has made Konami, and the loyalty we as players have shown them in spite of FIFA making the strides they have in recent years, that you would assume they would at least not have a bug so bloody frustrating that you want to kick your PS3 in ON THE FIRST DAY...

It's the fucking BOOTS!!!
Before installing the DLC, you're going to need to check every player. The players to look out for are wearing PES HERITAGE, but when you click on Accessories / Boots they don't have any boots assigned. Assign a pair of boots and this should fix it. Man Utd have a lot of players without Boots inc De Gea!
The above is purely a hunch, but whenever I find a player without any Boots, the game freezes for half a second before going back to normal.

Make sure all players have a pair of boots assigned to them. Players without boots will appear to be wearing PES Heritage iii boots.

I have been having similar problems but have found that the issue I have seems to centre around Mikel Arteta believe it or not. Whenever I tried to edit him or use arsenal for an exhibition, the whole game froze meaning a reboot. I tried trasferring him out but game froze when trying the save data. I have now fixed this issue for me by using the edit league structure and removing Arsenal. Then adding a spare portugese team to the Premier league and copying all the Arsenal players back in via transfers - then creating Arteta and adding him and editing the embelm etc. Unfortuantely, it takes a bit of time but it does stop the game from freezing for me at least. So long as I don't use North London...of course where the real Arteta still sits. Maybe it would be interesting to see if anyone else can edit Arteta without the game freezing? It is interesting that for me he doesn't appear when to click on him to edit - using PS3 byt the way - but my brother reports same issue with PC version - so maybe it is the cause - not sure - thought it was worth a shout!
of course its the boots cos they added them via dlc and maybe it crashes cos there not in the game?

I have done much of this and have used prequel data from pes 2012 without any hitches.
I play on the PC and are close to finishing my OF in less then a day.

"Arteta" issue!
You need to delete the DLC and your edit file from your XBox Storage.
Restart PES13, re-import PES12 Prequal data but........ Refuse the kit imports (as these are already imported) this saves about 4 hours.
Once loaded, you can go to the edit screen and go to Arteta and assign him some boots. Check any players you may have edited in PES12 inc Created players. Look out for BLACK HERITAGE BOOTS.
I haven't downloaded the DLC since as I don't want to go through all this again.

I was right!
What an absolute sham! This problem is all down to Product Placement and greed!
There's a new message which pops up at the start of the game explaining that certain boots that players wore in PES12 are not in PES13. If your PES12 option file is loaded into PES13, you're almost guaranteed to have Crashing problems within the editing section.
I am playing the game without downloading any DLC. The game doesn't crash allowing you to change the boots. Look out for Plain Black Boots. 90% of the time, players with these boots won't have any boots assigned to them.
