Defending against free kicks

Should you put a player as a straight blocker in the far post? I saw in a thread somewhere here about doing it and started trying it out, too, but damn, it seems as if this is actually making things worse. I'm starting to feel like if you do this the game just scripts the ball right over the defender's head in to the net as punishment. Or maybe he just gets in the way of the goalkeeper. Either way I feel like this might not be the way to go, since I just got 2 out of 2 FKs beautifully hit into my top corner in the first 20 minutes of a super-important game and I'm raging like a total sperg.

Also, any tips on corners? I seem to straight convert like 1 in 20. My guy gets his head on the ball before the defender maybe one in 15. It's literally so horrible that I don't even view a corner as a scoring opportunity any more.

Btw for those of you that care, that super-important game was the second-to-last season game featuring 4th-place me against 3rd-place ManU (2 points between us, 1 point between Europa League and my goal difference sucks).

I used to do the blocker in 2011, it really worked, but not in 2012, the IA handle to put the ball always above you player with millimetric precision.

Since in 2012 you can control the goalkeeper, you can to move him to the far post before the kick.

Use L1 + R3 to get control of the keeper.

If L1 + R3 does not work, look in the controls help for new commands to see how is listed there.

if you dont control the keeper on freeckicks the cpu will score 99/100 of them.

Ok guys new and improved question. What the hell is R3? In my settings I only have RB and RT (PC version). If it refers to the analog stick, I can't get it to work. Command help only gives the player switching command for attacking FKs. I think it's the same thing, but I'm not sure, it seems to me like just R3 should be enough. Either way if I mash them buttons in defence, it refuses to switch to GK.

After Patch 1.02, free kicks go in from anywhere on superstar and before the didn't. Patch 1.02 made superstar scripted and know in the last few minutes of the match if I am winning, I play keep ball.

Just press L2+R2, a few miliseconds before the taker kicks the ball. You have to be precise. Don't press it too early nor too late.
If you do it right, either the barrier will block/deflect the ball, or it will disturb the taker a bit.
Before I use this, the AI would score 90% of times. Now, it doesn't score for 90% of times.


Works for me in every patch, for every level of difficulty.
Try it.

When I first got Pes2012 the computer scored freekicks from everywhere, got me really pissed off, but then I just started pressing the :square: button this way the whole wall jumps and added another defender with either :L2: or :R2: and they havent scored a freekick in months... :lol:
