Defending/Attacking corners

Well, I use R1 (press and hold) and the arrows to either defend or attack, and to good effect. I've been scoring some and conceeding none against my friends.

If you hold R1 the cursor changes to a player and you can cycle through to any player in that area. Just like throw ins. Basically highlight a player, run in the box to where you want the ball, then cross!

Get a central defender moving into the back post, off screen first as sometimes fails to get picked up (use right stick to find) then steam the back post, scored a few that way, or quick dash at an angle to the near post

Press and hold R1 and use the arrows (or LS, if that's the case) to direct the header. What's so difficult to understand?

Didn't you mean R3?

The advice you've given me is completely wrong, for my situation.

R1 isn't what I use to select players from dead ball situations. I use the right analogue. And when you refer to 'arrows', I'm presuming you mean the d-pad? Which is a pretty confusing, and bizarre thing to call it when arrows, in past pre evos, means something completely different.

For the record I use the right analogue stick to select players from dead ball situations.

Maybe your poor explanation is the reason I was having difficulty trying to understand what you were talking about. And for future reference, if you're going to help somebody out, you should reframe from using what comes across as snide remarks or it just makes it look back handed.

Edit - On a different note, I'm not seeing much talk about defending corners which is probably my biggest issue out of the two. I conceded three goals in a row against Clint Dempsey and there seemed absolutely nothing I could do about it.

I've never come close to scoring a corner and seem to concede loads.

Any advice? Cheers.

I've scored from my last 4 corners unbelievably by using the old corner trick. Wait till you get a corner pause the game and send up defenders for the corner, then wait until they make there way up into the box and cross so they are coming on to the headers with momentum. You have just enough time to do the trick online before the 5 seconds run out. When heading the ball press the opposite direction!
Thank me later:thumbsup:

The only advise I can give on defending crosses is just try and position your players before the cross comes in and wait till the last second to press a header button.

Sorry for using the term 'arrows'. What I meant is D-Pad or LS.

As for R1, it is not meant to SELECT any player. It is meant to make the player (at which the ball is destined), to try to antecipate the defenders when the time is right for the header.

I do it all the time, and I'm able to win 90% of the corners. I just press and hold R1 right after the corner is taken, and then, in the right moment I press CIRCLE (or SQUARE) and direct the header.

As you may have noticed, I don't use R3 (right analogue) to move at players at all. I don't need to. And all my friends that try to score by moving a player using R3, fail miserably. No matter how good their player is positioned, they never score. They can eventually win the headers, but it will always go wide, as I also position one of my defenders, using the LS... and by using that method (R1+LS) I always put enough pressure on the attacker.

Oh, and BTW:
when your doubts are strictly confined on a partial explanation (e.g. arrows), try to avoid questioning about the whole explanation, like you did here:
Not sure what you mean about arrows and pressing R1.

because that gives the impression that you don't even know what 'pressing R1' means. That's why I didn't understand your doubts the first place.
