how many of you have noticed the following...(?)

(btw, all tactics and strategies are set...defending line...defenders markers are set to 'defending' and not 'balanced')

rafael runs down the right flank and loses the ball...arshavin runs down that exposed flank...ferdinand tries to cover that flank in time, whilst vidic goes to cover ferdinands spot and evra goes to vidic's spot...ferdinand tries a slide tackle, but misses completely...arshavin still has the ball at his feet and arsenal forwards are well and truly starting to fill the utd penalty box...meanwhile, vidic goes and tries his luck to go and get the ball from arshavin in that right hand corner, leaving evra to fill what originalluy used to be ferdinands position (by this time, at least carrick has arrived in the box)...but it is too late...arshavin delivers a perfect ball and van persie is left unmarked at the far post, who heads it in tidily.

why do defenders move out of their own postion of their own accord?? i would rather if i control the defenders and tell them when to move out of place and make a mistake than the AI do it for me!!!

Instead of going in for the tackle with Ferdinand, why not select Vidic, then hold down [ ] so that Ferdinand goes to press Arshavin down the line, and you can run Vidic back into the box and mark Van Persie.
Half the time, they wont even get the cross in, as your defender will make a tackle, and if they do, you can easily defend the cross with Ferdinand.

i find this is a good little defensive tactic. Dont follow the ball, follow the player. ie, get yolu AI defenders to press the man on the ball, and you get back in the box to defend the pass/cross.

Great advice Bridport Bee. Thats exactly what I do, I select a player in the middle (CB or DM and then press the [ ] (playing on PS3) which will take the full back or other CB over to close the winger down, while they do that I'm moving my selected player with any runners etc or marking the area to get to any crosses that come in.

It works really well when you've mastered it. and by the way the AI isn;t too bad at closing down and tackling - let it do that for you and you concencrate on whats happening in the box.
