Defense very unfair, am i doing something wrong?

I'm playing on PROFESSIONAL mode, which isn't the hardest, I know, but this is the first year i've played PES.

I can't understand how when i have the ball, the defense can poke the ball away immediately after pulling even with me (they also seem to catch up WAY faster).

When I am running parallel while on defense, the computer can hold me at distance with ease as if there is a force field around his body.

I don't feel that i'm playing on even footing and it really ruins the experience for me.

Thoughts?!

Try being more selective with who you decide to run with.

If you have, for example, Drogba up front, it's probably not the best idea to try run around the defender. If you play a one-two with someone and manage to get in front of the defender, then generally, he is going to be big enough and strong enough to hold off that defender until he passes/shoots.

I do understand your frustration with the computer though, it does seem like they can get away with more, but if it really is frustrating you that much then go down a level to until you have a better understanding of when the right time to run is, or when the right time is to sheild the ball from the defender and play the simple pass etc.

Also, when you are defending, unless you are making some kind of headway on the attacker, don't bother running parallel with him, curve your run towards your goal to keep him out wide, and force him into making a decision.

I understand. Thanks for the reply.

I go down a level and i don't loose for 80 matches.

When the run down the sides, I will force them out, but my guys are massively out of position to start with. I have no LB or RB there to defend. He runs off for some reason.

Once they sprint faster than all my guys and get down to my box, they fake me and then cross.

When I do the exact same thing, they steal the ball from me. It happens without fail each time.

When I play the safe pass, they close in quicker than I can press pass. When I go wide, I am manhandled and they clear it.

Go onto training and try out some of the Dribbling help. It will teach you the importance of touch and helps you understand how the computer will move. Give it a go. ;)

I have this problem...i find it really hard to defened because i'm never really got the hang of these games, and this doesn't help.

well i know your problem and the only thing you can do is put up with it, because the AI isn't the best in PES 6; ive noticed that even when the computer is clear on goal, it decides to go wide and cross it, when no one is in the box. and yeah the AI does seem to get away with it more, but what you need to do is observe. see what they do, and try and imitate it, and you should be OK. you cant just get by with passing, crossing and shooting, you need to learn some little close control as well to get past defenders. obviously if your gonna try and go around a defender you wont be able to (not in Top Player anyway) but if you could it wouldnt be a challenge would it? try the easiest difficulty and you can run around defenders no problem, only thing is they hardly ever move! so my advice would be to just keep going, you will get better eventually, and try and practice some of the things the computer does in Free Training. its helped me a lot.

also if you can go online and play real people. after about 10 matches (doesn't matter if you lose all of them) come back and play the computer again, you should see a massive improvement.

one more thing. you may not do this, but keep it in mind. never use one player to go past everyone, because its too much trouble than its worth. learn to use pass every time, and only go for it when your sure it will work. also, dont randomly shoot unless you have a clear shot and your player is good enough to score from there; take the option with the better chance, which is passing to another player.

ONE MORE THING!! in defence, DONT RUN AT THE PLAYER WITH THE BALL. do not do that, because the guy will just pass you and leave you for dead. instead, let go of the X button (or whatever button you use to auto run at the ball in defence) and match the attackers run, especially on the wings. you should be able to understand when they will dummy it. easiest thing is to only sprint when they do, just keep blocking their way, dont try and run at them, just block, but not at a distance, about a few feet away. they will probably pass and even if the pass is successful, the danger is usually gone.
