Do you notice this about refereeing?

I don't know if it's just my imagination...or coincidence...

But I feel, it as actually a neat mechanic if it's true.

The for each game, the referee sets kind of a tone for the game, just like in real life?

For me it isn't the same every game, and it's not random. It seems like if a ref is being lenient there will be tons of contact with many no calls on both sides(obviously more lenient on the CPU)...but overall more lenient to both.

And if the ref is being strict, there will be like yellow cards galore...for way less contact than usual?

I can't say that I've noticed the refereeing in this game being any different from one game to the next. I know that in PES6 and earlier games you used to be able to choose the referee and some were definitely stricter than others. I'm not sure what year they stopped giving you this option.

I guess it's possible that the referees in PES2017 do have different levels of strictness but you just never see their name or really recognize that they are different to each other. I suppose you could test it by zooming in and checking the appearance of the ref and seeing if you can sense a difference in how they handle the game. It would take a bit of doing :)

From the patterns I'm seeing, they probably have this in some way....even though the refs are not readily named.

I've been in games, where there's like 1 warning, for an extremely bad foul, and it's a brawl out there....ref lets' them play on....

And other games, where even the slightest bad contact, and it's a foul...and the fouls pile up....

It's not like the refereering is consistent and the same every game....else I think we would know exactly what was what by now, in terms of fouls.

I there are definitely games were the refs set an agenda and stick to it (well.. unless it happens in the AI penalty box)

I've noticed that players on yellow cards generally avoid sliding in a second time, which in essence will result in the effect you have noticed. ie After a FB has been given a card, you can take him on with less chance of him fouling you again.

Nice! I never noticed that, but now I do.

Though I have noticed some games there's extreme contact and egregious fouls that are not even called....other games trips, bumps, slightest contact draws like 8 yellow cards all together...

Yeah, the refs are different in leniency. You just don't want a lenient ref for a derby match. That's the worst combo.

lol. I think I've experienced this...I'm usually pretty chill, but Fulham/Chelsea in the final of the FA cup, my controller was in peril, from death by smashing on the TV...

And I never get like that, but that's how frustrating it was lol....

Does difficulty level affect the volume of cards? I play on Pro (cause I suck) and I rarely see any cards unless I slide tackle.

Not sure bro, not much I've noticed. Though I did notice more penalties in Top Player than Superstar....but it could be coincidence not sure if there's any correlation.

I'm going to guess that this might be because they don't chase you down as much in Pro as they do in Super Star.
