Does anyone use 4231 or 4213?

How do you make it work? I've been using 4123 but I thought 4231 would give me more stability and passing options in midfield so I gave it a go, and it turns out the midfield is non-existent, the 2 DMFs stays way back all the time and the AMF is never is a good position, so I can never find anyone to pass to and struggle to create any chances at all. Is there anyway I can instruct one of the DMFs to bomb forward?

It's no better defensively neither, in 4123 the 2 AMF tracks back to create a 3 man midfield wall but the lone AMF in 4231 just goes missing again. Is there a problem with the formation or is it just me? Can someone shed some light? :erm:

I Play 4231 and have done since the beginning of my master league as I prefer building up in midfield, I play with a fluid formation and have moved my left and right back to left mid and right mid when in possession and one of my DMFs becomes a CM, I leave my attacking midfielder in the same position and either side of the attacking mid I have two CMs, I often find that if the DM I have moved to CM gets the ball in the attacking area the attacking midfielder will swap places momentarily. Then when I lose possession my formation reverts back to a standard 4231. Does the trick for me, just usually pass it around the midfield and make space, take advantage of the overcrowd in midfield then a player will get a good position and you'll be through on goal!

Using fluid formation seems to be a good idea. Although I wouldn't play 4-2-3-1 anyway, I don't like double six systems, two DMF-s are a wasting of resources, one is good enough with a back four, I rather play 4-3-3 with two box2box CMF-s, so I have 5-5 players responsible for defense and attack.
