so, after hearing about all the great reviews for pes 2013, i decided to dish out 50 dollars for it, hoping for the best.

me and my mate played it for a few hours against the computer and i can honestly say that i am officially done with the pes franchise.

first off, pes 2013 is no doubt better than 2012. i'll give it that much. and there were moments that were fun. but all in all, its no where even close to the quality of fifa 2013 at the moment.

now, i was the biggest pes fanboi up until last year. me and my mates played the ps2 version for years and years and years. i remember breaking night so many times playing master league because i just had to get in that one last game. i consider that one of the best gaming experiences of my life, having adrenaline pumping through your veins cause you just scored that 90th min goal at 4 in the morning and wanting to scream but can't cause you would wake up the entire house. priceless...

i finally switched over to the next gen console and purchased pes 2012 last year. we played it for about 6 months, wanting to love it, trying to love it, but couldn't. playing it felt like being repeatedly punched in the face by a clown. i felt insulted to play it. the game was just so sloppily put together. 95% of free kicks going in if you don't jump the wall, regardless of who's kicking it. the 500 mph intricate passing and .00000001 second reaction time of all the computers, regardless of the team. the game just feels so sloppy, unpolished, and unfinished.

and the main problem with pes is this, when you play it, you feel like your playing a game, not a football game, just a game. it feels like a made up sport that you have to adjust your concepts of what football is in order to play. i feel like im playing against the programming, trying to figure out the best way to overcome and defeat this 'game'. but i don't feel any essence of 'football'.

we started playing fifa 12 in the beginning of the summer, and while the learning curve was pretty steep and we got our asses kicked for hundreds of hours, we finally got decent and regularly get together and play for 8 hours at a time.

after playing 2013 today, all i felt was that it was a better version of 2012. the 500 mph passing was reduced to 250 mph. attacking is slightly easier and its been tweaked here and there but overall its the same damn game as 2012, just better. and then i realized pes can't change. it can only ever be another version of THAT game. the entire foundation and core programming of the game is off. its not something a tweak will fix, ever.

im not saying fifa is perfect, and it will never reach the level of pes for ps2, but at least it feels like im playing a 'football' game. it feels finished, polished, and i dont have to compromise myself, saying things like, 'ok, that makes absolutely no sense, but ill accept that and adjust in order to keep playing', which i end up saying every 5 minutes when playing pes.

sorry, its time to move on. goodbye pes...

Hi there

Agreed, sadly, thats the truth.

TBH, I want to move on, BUT to where....... the moon.

I am running out of good video games to play, for example..... good
decent soccer sims.

My Advice: Adapt to the changes of changes.

Bear the unbearables

possible the impossibles

believe the the unbelievebles

counter attack the counters.....etc, etc

As for me, hacking Stray demon's ass for 1-2 hours is not that much fun
either in Dark souls, millions people said oh...........the dark souls is amazing, spectacular... yes its a good game, I like playing it for fun, but by being thruthful to my own feelings, get killed, died or frustrated for 1000 times to exchange for 1 min of satisfaction for killing a boss.....
too much fun for that.

Desicions and choices are yours

good luck and take care

not sure wtf ur talking about. lol. but yeah, im satisfied with fifa 13 atm.

other than that though, i get bored with every game i play.

i heard a lot about dark souls, but don't have it in me to try it out. diablo 3 was one of the biggest failures in the history of gaming, so theres that. i consider the next gen pes the diablo 3 to the ps2 pes.

funny part is, you can just pick up pes 13 for ps2 and its still an awesome game. why they don't just make the same exact ps2 game with updated graphics i still dont know...

I agree totally with this. PES 2013 has great gameplay but if you are interested in winning, that gameplay doens't resemble football, it resembles some bastardised interpretation of football. Whilst half of the problem may be that Konami haven't had time to finish the game properly as is the case with the crossing/heading, more worryingly is that the other half of the problem seems to be 100% intentional. It is self evident in the way that the AI cheats the normal game physics to allow through balls to lead to 'exciting' 1-1 situations, that Konami have intentionally aimed for through balls and 1-1's to be a core feature of the game.

I don't care much for the offline V CPU mode, but online around 80% of the goals I concede are from 1-1's. Despite the huge variation in tactics and startegy options, the only thing that makes any sense is a deeply packed defense, a packed attack, and long ball strategy selected and relentlessly implemented. This pisses me off. What pisses me off even more is that fact that crossing the ball is a largely futile pursuit. This isn't football, this is bullshit. With PES 2013, play football and you lose, play bullshit and you win.

However, is FIFA really the answer?

I must admit, I never played FIFA 13 much but I did play FIFA 12 a bit and after around 50-60 games or so, I concluded it was the biggest pile of overrated rigid scripted bullshit in the world. Gameplay was invariably of a very rigid frustrating nature then all off a sudden, the AI would part like the red sea for no apparent reason and a 1-1 situation would present itself, from where 90% of goals would be scored/conceded. At least in PES, the player has to spot the 'clinical' through or long ball opportunity and then make the pass.

honestly, 50-60 games isnt enough. i don't know if you played fifa before fifa 12, but i didn't and it took all summer for me and my friends to figure out how to play that damn game. i'm not sure exactly how many games we have played, but it has to be a couple hundred. i would definitely say in the first 50-60 games, we constantly found ourselves caught off guard to a through/lob through which put my opponent on a 1-1 situation. o, and i play fifa exclusively online.

also, the fifa 12 defensive system was unique and known to be very difficult to master. but, i would say after a couple months i figured out the defense and only rarely did an opponent catch me with a through ball, which would almost always be my fault anyway for not paying enough attention.

i do feel fifa is rigid and one dimensional. the shooting system is pretty terrible and unrewarding. i don't feel any player individuality and scoring variation is pretty low. but the game is overall actually really fun to play. its a different type of fun, not a ps2 pes heart pounding, cursing out your mates type of fun, but fun nonetheless.

playing pes for 2 hours last night, me and my friend must have looked at each other at least 20 times like, did that just really happen? so much random, buggy, super human nonsense. sadly, we were all too used to it because of our time with pes 2012 and just stated, 'yep, pes is back.' i just can't play a game where random, nonsense happens every 30 seconds.

i remember a game from last night, i was dribbling into the box from the sideline and was planning on doing my patented cut move from fifa. it worked, i passed off the ball and my friend shot and scored. the problem? when i made that cut move, my player accelerated/teleported in such an impossible, unnatural way. and the problem with this game is that something super human/buggy like that happens EVERY MINUTE.

even with the shortcomings of fifa, i don't ever scratch my head playing it saying like, 'wtf? did that just happen? did he just teleport? did the the janitor from schalke 04 run onto the field and break the ankles of my entire team, lap the entire field, then do it again, shoot then score? did a team i never heard of put together a series of passes so intricate, so quick and technical, that it would give barcelona players a raging hard on, and then do it again every 2 minutes?'

the sad part is, playing through last night, i felt a nice pace to the game. at many times, it was a frenetic back and forth which is something i haven't felt in a while. but, coming from fifa, even 'that' didn't feel quite right. the pace of the game felt forced, allowed, wanted by konami. the 100%, crisp ground passing, which i thought i missed, felt unnatural and forced.

honestly, if i just decided, f soccer, im gonna enjoy pes for what it is, i could really see myself enjoying this game. and i may one day revisit pes and might even end up enjoying it. but, most likely i will play a few hours and once again end up saying to myself, 'wtf am i doing? what am i playing? what is this?'

Reading between the lines, you are nursing your rage against PES by playing FIFA. But you will get bored shitless. you wil be back.

its not that. im not raging against pes. i tried for 6 months to like the game. i REALLY tried. i was one of the people who would NEVER play fifa.

i changed because i had to change. maybe one day ill get bored of fifa, but at this point me and my friends have played hundreds of hours this summer and are still enjoying it.

o, also about pes. during that 6 month period of playing, my video game stamina dropped a lot. when the game got bad, we could only manage a few hours of playing before we just got so sick of it we had to stop. even last night playing pes 13, i pretty much just wanted to stop after an hour or so.

fifa, even when we were losing a lot, we could go for 8 hours at a time pretty comfortably.

o, and i already posted my pes 13 on ebay this morning so no, i won't be back. and like i said, pes is beyond tweaking. it needs a complete and major programming and conceptual overhaul. so unless pes 14 has revolutionary changes, which i know it won't have, i doubt ill be buying another pes for a long time.

I am still not convinced you can devote enough time to both games unless you are in school or not working full time.... Its a shame that you are done with PES for good. Its a game I have always come back to despite its shortcomings and that is down to the fact the satisfaction I get from scoring on top player level vs the computer which I just dont get from fifa. Enjoy gaming.

its no where even close to the quality of fifa 2013 at the moment.

Now, if you had said "its no where even close to the fun of fifa 2013 at the moment." you wouldn't have been wrong. It would've been a personal preference that one could agree or disagree with and quite honestly hardly anyone would give a damn about one way or the other.

But when you say "quality", you imply that there are something special with Fifa that makes it outstanding, and I know that's a fucking lie because I happen to own both games this year.

Fifa is more or less the same shit like every year, 1 on 1 duels all over the pitch and some REALLY weird physics going on on a relatively common basis. Otherwise Fifa is pretty decent...

Now PES has some issues, most specifically dynamic balance issues, but its quality is not beneath Fifa in any way. I really enjoyed PES2013 for a while, now I don't really play it anymore so I bought FIFA to cheer me up, what a bummer.

PES 2013 made a huge leap in the right direction, I like the gameplay but hate the game modes due to the balance issue i mentioned. FIFA hasn't really changed that much, it's overall a decent but shallow game and only usable for tournaments that involve alcohol and preferably naked women.

Both games are far below the expected quality of the worlds most popular sport, especially when you compare to games of other less popular sports. If you want to put FIFA and Quality in the same sentence, you clearly lack the meaning of the word, and I'm sure I could back up that statement with undeniable facts if I really wanted to.

I like your comments because you speak from an honest unbiased perspective. I am ...or rather was ....in the same boat but realized very quickly that PES needed more than just an basic update every year. I left PES mainly because they do not give a fuck about fans..period. The straw that broke my back was the online ...or rather the lack of. PES is just pure shit online.....and when you do, be prepared to meet the only two teams to compete against ...guess who they are and guess why?

I am not one to live in the past, PES in the ps2 days up to 2007 was great but i could not touch any of those games today. They look horrific compared to what is presented on consoles in 2012.

You have made a great decision....Fifa (just like PES was) is now king of football games. They have handed PES their fucking asses every single year since 2008. Biases aside .....Fifa is the best football game on earth today...PES sadly again last! Now you will see many here trying to tell you how bad Fifa is....but be warned. Almost none of them play Fifa. Just look at this moron below me Sabatsssoo ...
He will always try to let you that the game that outsold all games this year (Fifa13) is not any better than PES 2013. A game that has struggled every year, hated by fans...Out rated, out sold, outclassed by Fifa.

I am happy to see you sell PES ..stick with Fifa bro...everyone else and their mother is all over this game .

But when you say "quality", you imply that there are something special with Fifa that makes it outstanding, and I know that's a fucking lie because I happen to own both games this year.

Who are you to tell him what is quality and what is not? Aren't you just doing the same thing as you always do ....show your undying bias against Fifa.

Look Sab.....Fifa is game of the year once again. PES has failed miserably again...(no surprise). What is good with Fifa this year....

First Touch control
Attacking Intelligence
Impact Engine Fixed
Throw in Fixed
Defensive Contain toned down
Shooting even more improved
Manual Passing
A Million game modes to chose from both online and offline
Same Star Level Matches online (no Barca vs Madrid needed)
....should i go on?

Outside of that ...why should they change the game. It is not perfect but they have nailed the basic elements. When i sit back and look at the gameplay of Fifa with the animations.....they looking fucking real. these guys are playing fucking football. You cant just run by them...they tackle. You cant just shoot ..they block. they head they run into spaces they shoot at your goal. You mention one on one situations....isn't that a main part of football bro? WTF is wrong with you? Are you just lying again about owning and playing Fifa ...because anyone who plays both games can see a vast difference in both game.......how comes you can't?

What is good with PES 2013 this? Could you let me know Please?

Overpowered shooting
Ping Pong Passing

same game engine as PS2 in 2012. Robotic animations ...defenders catching up with speedy players ....should i go on or should i just point you the the top ten thread in this forum. How is PES any where near Fifa 13?

Get with it man ....your are extremely biased against Fifa.

Do not blame Fifa for Konami's short comings SAb ...that is just wrong man. Just wrong.

peace

it's not we are getting rid of pes for no reason, i feel also sad to be obliged to do this because simply the game is unbalanced, unfinished, plays the opposite of the pes we know from ps2 days,Ai cheating, based only on through balls to one on one. and last year also i tried to love the game, but i couldn't.

long dumb post

I just said that BOTH games lacked quality, and you make it out to sound like I am attacking only fifa.

The word quality is not the right word to use in relation with a subjective opinion, the word clearly need a little more facts and unbiasedness to be a relevant choice. Quality is not subjective, it's a set mark upon where there is no doubt of the truthfullness of the characterization. If he had said "I think it's quality" it would be a definition on his quality level rather than the actual game, and could have passed the loophole.

Fun, however, is a highly subjective choice of word used to promote your personal biased opinion, and a person can agree or disagree with it as they please, it's normal and would be pointless to argue against.

"I think it's fun to watch Days of our lives" is a statement not many would agree with, but the statement isn't wrong, because it's clearly a personal opinion.

I doubt you know enough about language to even comprehend what I am talking about here Ockrass, so why do you even bother?... or why do I even bother...

If you think most games today are of good quality, or "quality" as a lone statement, you're undermining your own expectations to enjoy mass produced mediocrity and mistake it for quality. There are only a few products sold over counter today that actually are worthy of the characterization "quality" unless it's preceded by "decent", "average" or "poor".

Quality;
An inherent or distinguishing characteristic; a property.

About your biased opinion about fifa, I don't agree with half of it, so it's word against word on that one. My opinion is also biased, and I admitted that I have enjoyed it for a short attention span and in combination with alcohol. I've also enjoyed piss poor games such as Halo, Call of duty series and other mass produced piss that they throw in the face of undemanding brats in todays market, fun is not the same as quality though, as those games aren't something that are good on their own, you need friends, beer and company to even consider playing them.
