everyone is picking madrid or barcelona online

You'll just have to live with it, sadly.
You can pick a better team overall, or otherwise it's actually much more possible for a weaker team to beat a strong one in this version, from what I can tell.
I played a few games yesterday and beat several people using Real Madrid with the humble Fulham.
It's very satisfying, at least, when you own R. Madrid players.

Agree with Alainvey, I think the online evens things out a little if you pick a lower team against the big sides, I have played Barca and Madrid many a times with smaller teams and have never been overawed, though I have been beat handsomely against these 2 teams while playing as Man Utd or Inter.

I think the only way to stop people using Real and Barca etc is for Konami to set up certain sections within the online game.
ie:-
3 star teams which include Real, Inter, Barca, Chelsea etc
2 star teams which include Spurs, Athletic Madrid etc
1 star teams which include Stoke, Wigan etc
You select the level you want play with and you and your opponant can pick from only teams in that grouping. Surely it cant be too hard to set that up?
You can still play Barca vs Wolves if you want but thats your choise in an open structure but the people who are sick of the usual big teams playing each other can choose a different way. This would then surely stop it and would definately be easy to impliment.

Recently I have managed to get a few people to change to lower teams, just a few mind. So just ask nicely. Often people respond with "why?", or a few certain 4 letter words.
I find that one nation of people tend to be the one that pick the biggest teams the most, I found this on Fifa 10 too. That would be the French.
They never pick French teams despite there being a few decent ones, 90% of them pick Real Madrid. The Dutch are almost as bad, in the way that Schneider plays for Inter Milan, therefore they are an Inter fan. I know i'm making generalisations, so if you're from these countries and do pick lower teams/teams from your country, I thank you for bucking the trend. Please spread the word to your fellow countrymen.

I have used the same approach and unfortunately only 20% ever change. I use Villa and they are not too bad. Its great to beat the bigger teams but some of the best games I have ever had were vs the likes of Everton, Spurs and Lyon.
Real shame Konami cater for the idiots and not the rest of us.

Luckily I've gotten some diversity Celtic,Werder,PSG, even Hercules, a good amount of these people picking the top teams suck its all about ghosting with Messi and CR9 and you cant do that in this game not anymore. Besides they all fall to Villarreal

Villarreal are a good team to be, though I've only actually been them once online. I also like to use Atl. Madrid and Valencia. Juve are a good team to use against the big boys, and I should probably mention Werder Bremen too, they have powerful strikers.
The weirdest game I got was Malaga (me) vs Saudi Arabia. Though I think it picked them randomly because he took too much time, he was a Barca user.
I played my fitst quick match lastnight I normally play MLO.
Only reason I played was I needed 30gp for the last classic players . Bish bosh straight for Real he goes fuk you I sent him.
I went Chelsea and I went 5-4-1 he never had a sniff it finished 0-0.
He had no ideas at all it was hilarious

I like using Atleti as well from time to time. In 2010 it was danm near impossible to be Villarreal Nilmar was a 69 plus near everyone else on the team was underrated, the bench was a joke, plus 2010 could not replicate agile teams like Villarreal you just could not do their style of passing and free flowing football. Its why I like 2011 because you don't have to be top teams to earn victory. Even though we are currently in second
As for Werder its fun to play with them as well though Arnautović needs a stat upgrade. But to get back on topic, I think many people are realizing this and opting to play as teams they truly support instead of the huge clubs.I m very happy too when i used Spurs beat Inter Milan. Bale, Lennon, and Defoe are superb!!!!
Konami should adjust the ranking point. Big team decrease more ranking point when lost to small team. Barcelona against Everton: Barca win gain 5 points, lose loss 40 points. Everton win gain 40 points, lose loss 5 points. And calculate the point depend on the difference among 1 to 5 star teams.

argentina for national teams every time no matter what i would say 90% of my matches are against barcelona madrid and argentina wing play i got nothing against these teams i just like to have fun playing online with different teams but if i set up a friendly its the same
