Feedback for PES 2012 (PS3)

I've given feedback the past few years and there seems to be people actually listening, so here it goes again, the 2012 version:

1. Better replay cameras

When you watch the highlights the camera angles are all very good, and very much like a TV broadcast. But when you manually watch a replay and save it to your hard drive, the camera angle options are very limited.

I'd like to see some of those camera angles from the highlights be available for manual replays as well.

2. Youtube upload or video conversion

It would be nice to have a way to share saved videos, a way to upload them to youtube, or a way to convert the saved replays into actual video files.

I know Sony's MLB game lets you save replays as actual video files, so it can't be that hard.

Combine this with my first suggestion and you'd have a much improved system.

3. Emblem slots for all teams

Self explanatory. Not sure why this hasn't happened yet. Legal reasons perhaps???

4. Greater range of speed and game tempo

I really like playing with the speed set at -2, because I feel it captures the build up better. However, it also makes for a slower game overall.

If I raise the speed to -1 or 0 then it feels a bit more realistic in terms of capturing the faster speed and quicker tempo, but you lose the low end slower build up.

In other words if the real life range of speed and game tempo were on a scale of 1-10, -2 game speed captures 1-7, while -1 speed captures 3-9. So I think the range needs to be stretched out a bit, to better represent the full variety you see in real life.

5. Clearances need some slight fixing

Every now and then you will see a clearance that looks way off. Sometimes you will see a guy way out near the half line clear it out of bounds to the side, or sometimes you will see a side back clear it all the way to the other side out of bounds.

It doesn't happen that often, maybe once every few games or so. And yes I realize I myself can choose to use a different button besides the clearance button, but the thing is that doesn't prevent the AI from doing so.

6. Defenders need more awareness of space and positioning versus oncoming dribblers

When there is an oncoming dribbler sometimes you will see defenders choose to mark a man without the ball rather than pay much needed attention to the man with the ball.

When this happens it usually happens between the penalty area and the half way line, and it opens up a huge space for the dribbler to go through, forcing you to scramble back to prevent a one on one.

It seems to me that center backs in particular need to be more aware of the space behind them, and value that in favor leaving that space for one of the attackers without the ball.

Hopefully that makes sense. :unsure:

Basically you will sometimes see the back line part like they were giving way to Moses when an attacking player dribbles the ball over the half way line. It doesn't happen all that often, but it's a pretty glaring error when it does.

Like I say, center backs need to be aware that they are the last player between the attack and the keeper.

7. More visible radar icons

Often times the icons of the radar are barely visible, or indistinguishable from the icons of the other team. I always end up having to go to the screen settings before each game to set these to red and white.

I think in past games you could set these from the main menu so that the home team was always one color and the away team a visible and contrasting color, but you can't anymore. The options are still there from the main menu, but they are grayed out, so you have to set them in game.

It would be nice to be able to set these so they stayed one color permanently.

8. Variations of in game cameras

It would be nice to be able to perhaps zoom in or zoom out the in game cameras ever so slightly. In other words for each camera angle, also provide a few variations of those cameras, one that zoomed in a bit and one that zoomed out.

This would let people fine tune the camera to their liking.

7. More visible radar icons
Actually I just discovered the radar icons stay fixed to what you set them in Master League. :cool: It's just for exhibition games that you have to change them at the start of every game.

A few more suggestions:

9. Option for player names at the bottom of the screen

Older versions of PES had player names across the bottom of the screen. It would be nice to have that option back. I don't like seeing the players name floating out there on the pitch, so I turn that option off. Yet I still sometime would like to see who has the ball.

I think an option to put the players name across the bottom of the screen would be good, if it was done in a minimalist manner so that it didn't block too much of the action.

Another option might be to have the player's name fade after a few seconds. So once he got the ball it would indicate over his head who that player was, then fade away so you didn't have a name always floating around on the pitch.

10. More clarity and function for the tactics

Right now it's not really clear if the AI will use the four tactic slots, or if those are just there for the user. Ideally I'd like to have the option to set those four slots for every team, and have the AI use them appropriately. I don't know, maybe they already do??? It doesn't seem like it, because during a game the game plan always shows the AI using slot #1.

Another good feature for the tactics would be to be able to copy and paste a formation to and from one of the four slots. So for example if you have a good formation set up in slot 1, you could simply copy and paste it to slot 2 without having to set it up all over again.

11. A clear uniform button

When creating kits you currently have to go through each one and delete the current default uniform option, which involves a lot of scrolling.

How about a simple option to start from scratch? Press the triangle button, or whatever, and the uniforms are all blank and ready to be worked on.

12. Better highlight section in Master League

Right now Master League has a small section where you can view photos randomly taken during a game.

How about being able to take your own pictures and put them there? And how about being able to view a full screen shot of these pictures? How about even being able to save screenshots to the hard drive as jpgs or pngs?

Combine this new highlight section with my suggestions #1 and #2, and you'd have quite a nice new feature. :cool:

A few things for stadium creator:

13. Background image import needs fixing

On the PS3 any time you import an image to use as a background for a stadium a line appears at the very top of the image where it meets the sky. Even if you erase the sky so that it's transparent the line still shows up.

14. The scrolling ad board on the field always shows "Konami"

It would be nice to be able to change the scrolling ad board that runs along the field, so that it showed something other than "Konami". As is seeing "Konami" for each and every stadium you create makes them look too similar. How about a few different options that use ad boards from real life companies? Or how about the option to import images for this part of the field?

15. PLEASE FIX THE SHOOTING!
PES 2011 SHOOTING WAS MUCH BETTER!
Grtz

The shooting is better this year, once you learn how it works. Aim your shots further to one side, and shoot when you have a good opportunity.

A few more things about Master League:

15. Make training less vague

I like how training has been simplified, but it's too vague. You can set the focus, and change it at any time, but I think the system can be better. I suggest allowing the user to set up training for each day leading up to the game, then after each game have the coach ask you how you would like to set up training, at which point the user would be taken to the training menu.

Maybe there could be a calender, on which each day could be toggled to one of the five training regimens. Also, perhaps have a line graph showing the development over time for each category. I don't know, just something with a little more focus, a little more control.

16. Add practice mini games to Master League

This could be in addition to my previous suggestion, allowing users to actually take part in the training first hand if they wanted to, but also allowing them to sim past the training if they wanted.

The mini games would focus on whatever the training focus was set to. So if the focus was technique, there would be a series of drills that focused on things like shooting, etc.

If the user performed really well during these drills you could reward them with small extra boost.

I think allowing people to take part in training this way would really give the user a sense of building a team.

Maybe you only play with topteams? If you look on other PESforums you will see that the shooting is a big problem.. But no offence, i'm glad it works for you. Grtz

Hi there, could it be that before you shoot you have to point your body to the corner you will shoot? Because i was searching on internet and i found something that it has to do with the body angel of the player? Grtz

I wouldn't call VVV-Venlo a top team.

Just because some people say it's a problem doesn't mean it's a problem. The people that are complaining about the shooting are like test subjects who continually try to put the square peg in the round hole. That is to say, rather than adjust what they are doing, they just assume something is wrong.

Like I said above, you have to aim your shots further to one side or the other, and you have to take good shots. This includes shooting with players who should be taking shots, and making sure those players are in good position.

I suggest going into practice mode and trying to get a feel for it. It's a lot different this year, but it's also better.

Suggestions for feints:

17. Simplify the input required for feints

Feints are way too complicated, and require too many inputs to be practical. I suggest the following set up:

R-Stick Feints

S07 Shoulder
S12 Scissor

These are actually already mapped to the R-stick. However, I think they could be better in two ways:

1. For every feint that goes nowhere, there should be a complimentary feint that takes you in a particular direction. So for a should fake to the left, the compliment would be a shoulder fake to the left then dribble to the right.

2. These feints don't always register, because you have to be too precise. I suggest widening the input area to 45 degrees, so that you don't always have to press exactly to the right/left to pull off these feints. 45 degrees will give you enough room for 8 inputs.

L2 Feints

S09 Roulette
S13 Step On
S14 Side Stepping

I would remove any involvement of the R-stick for these moves, and simply have them be pulled off using the L2 button and the L-stick. It would be much more intuitive this way. You'd use R1 for speed dribbling, R2 for controlled dribbling, and L2 for stepping on the ball. There's no need to even bring the R-stick into the equation.

L1 Feints

S08 Turning
S10 Flip Flap

These would be the fancy moves, and they would also remove any involvement of the R-stick. Again, it's much more intuitive to have it set up this way. In the user's mind the player is controlled with the L-stick, then the four shoulder buttons would be used to input the four different styles of controlling the ball:

R1 = Speed
R2 = Control
L2 = Step On
L1 = Fancy

R3 Feints

S11 Flicking

And finally you have the flicking moves. These too would be simplified by removing the need to hold down L2 when pulling these off. There's no need for requiring the user to press L2 for these moves and it only complicates the matter.

Conclusion

So all in all you have in the user's mind that players are controlled with the L-stick, then all dribbling and feints would be grouped together to make them easier to memorize and easier to pull off, like so:

R1 = Speed
R2 = Control
L2 = Step On
L1 = Fancy
R-stick = Upper and Lower Body Fakes
R3 = Flicks

When you add in extra button presses or stick movements it makes everything way too complex, way too convoluted. If you are worried about the ease of pulling these moves off with lesser players, simply make it so only players with certain skill sets can execute these feints successfully.

A few more things:

18. One touch fakes

Currently there's no way to fake a one touch shot or one touch long pass. If you press shoot or long pass before the ball gets to a players he will automatically kick the ball. It would be nice to be able to fake during these instances by pressing X to cancel the kick, just like a player would if he was already in possession of the ball.

19. Players to join attack

Currently no team has any players joining the attack on set pieces. Most, if not all, professional teams will send a back line player forward on set pieces and corner kicks. I think the default set up should be changed to have at least one back line player joining the attack on set pieces. It makes things much more realistic this way.

Yes maybe it's better to practice more,a couple of days and it will work fine :) but it was frustrated bacause i play PES for a very long time and this year.. PES is really good but what bothers me is that (on this moment) the shooting is (for me) a problem and when the CPU gets a freekick,it's most of the time goal... So it's very hard to win a match on a FAIR way. Grtz (hope your team finds a good trainer caus De Boeck has left the team..)

Just realized R3 for flicks would interfere with the controls to send players forward.

Thinking about it more I think L3 would be best for flicks. In order to press L3 you would have to let up on the L-stick so it would be centered, and this would fit well with the flick moves because they are more measured moves in which a player must slow down a bit to perform.

And keeping R3 for sending players forward is much more intuitive, to have the controls be a quick 1-2 with the right stick, rather than moving the activation to L3 or somewhere else.

18. More errant passes from the AI

CPU controlled teams are a little too accurate with their passes. You will on occasion see passes go astray, but not frequently enough.

While it is nice to be able to adjust the passing for the user, with the five different levels of pass assist, it is almost negated when the AI still delivers an unrealistic amount of accurate passes.

ADDED TIME

While playing added time, most of the games end when the ball is in the neutral zone. Like they should and like they do in the real world.
Anyways, i've played two matches where the 1st half ended while playing in the box, just after i hit the ball into the net. The goals didn't count as the ball didn't cross the goal line before the ref made the whistle. :no:

19. More stable online

Don't know if you guys monitor this stuff or not, I assume so, but I've been trying to play online the last few days and can complete about 40% of the matches I play.

I live in the US on the west coast, and tried every type of mode, with each one being just about equally unstable. Disconnects were happening more than half the time.

My connection is good too. Never had this type of trouble with other games I've played online, including connecting with players worldwide.

It's pretty much unplayable at this point, knowing I'll probably get disconnected.

This is for the PS3 by the way.

Europa league

20. SINGLE EUROPA LEAGUE MODE
Why you can only choose to play Champions league or copa libertadores when you also have the rights of Europa league...
I know you can play it in ML but i think it is again a stupid miss. A lot of fans of "smaller teams" just want to play Europa league, including me.
Maybe in PES 2013..

20. AI's use of feints needs some fixing

Every so often you will see the AI execute about five feints in a row, and it looks very unrealistic. It's usually a step over or a shoulder feint, over and over again as the defender backs up. Sometimes it even happens as the player with the ball heads towards the sidelines.

If you're actually controlling the defender you can break it up by going in for a tackle, but if you just let it go or are in BAL mode, the AI will just keep on executing the feint.

Yes it is true you will on occasion see players in real life do something like this, particularly the step over, but not quite to the extent that you see in the game as I am describing. I don't know, I might put a limit of 3 on the amount of step overs and shoulder feint the AI does in a row, and also reduce the number of times the AI actually reaches that limit. A limit is especially needed if the player is going towards the sideline.

I don't understand your problem here. You can pick your defenders you want to join the attack with corners, free kicks etc.

You made some good points. Some of the points are really easy to integrate in the game that I wonder why Konami hasn't worked them out in a patch yet. I also find it weird you cannot set the radar icons to your desired colours once, and that the game saves that for all exibition and online matches.
Also, player names at the bottom of the screen (like in older PESgames) should not be that hard to add? I would love that! It's just to bad Konami doesn't seem to care to much what their costumers want. If they would just integrate 10% of the good suggestions made here every day, the game would improve big time. I understand it's hard to integrate things like 'one touch fakes', but the small improvements/suggestions should be easy to add in a patch.

15. PLEASE FIX THE SHOOTING!
PES 2011 SHOOTING WAS MUCH BETTER!
Grtz

Hi there, after al my complaints it's now time to review my opinion.

After a lot of practice the shooting works very good now, it happens sometimes that it's in de middle of the goalie but now i can say and understand that it's my own fault. I am a PES player since PES 6 and i took a total step back and started from the beginning again.. Searching a new formation that is good for attacking AND also for defending (this is for me the biggest difference, you must be 200% contentrated this year,specialy for defending... every misstep can be punished :) ) So i want to thank the whole PES crew for there work.. Ok the're some things that could be better but for me this game brings me back the joy of the bestest PES times!!! I'm a happy fan:)

Its only a small thing so perhaps Konami could fix this in the next update:
The High viz seitiro ball reverts to the white seitiro during league play. After a few games with the high viz it always changes to the white even though the high viz is marked in the league advanced settings.
