FIFA 09 V PES 2009 From an Expert

a little criticsm and these pes forum regulars label you a fanboy.

Why cant they just explain why it's the case instead of being so childish.

The ball clearly sticks to the turf like velcro unless it is kicked in the air. And the keepers are poor. Why have they not improved these flaws from pes 08?

Cmon man, what is it with everyone, firstly the article clearly says FIFA is lagging in certain areas not that it's better. Secondly you guys need to be a little unbiased and practical. All you young new generation are wayyyyyyyyyyyy too impatient. You see people like me had to wait 20 years to see FIFA 09 and PES 2009. So I think its unfair for you to make that comment about me.

My comment was aimed at fifapro not you mate, i thoroughly enjoyed your post & i agreed with you. I've been playing football games since fifa international soccer when it 1st appeared on the mega drive & have been waiting a long time to get a game which represents the true feeling of a game of football.

I dont think u do urself any favours when ur name is FIFAPRO, what do u think???

When most footballers pass the ball they want to keep the ball on the deck surely.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Spectrum and Amstrad days. Whatever happened to the old cassette data discs?

and guzzler SNES is way too recent in that history, they represented some of teh glory days lol. But didnt you just love the accompany music that made you feel like you were in some street fight rather than a soccer match? Oh and how those players use to glide rather than run across the pitch.

I agree with the first comparison with ball physics. There is no reason for a ball in FiFa09 should go sailing into the bleachers of the fans when attempting to make a goal. That makes no sense.

But the second part of the OP I don't agree with. There is a name for it and it's called immersion. What is your level of gaming immersion when you play FIFA09 vs PES2009? That whole second part is basically about this fundamental question. The conclusion is not only biased but one of personal preference. I've played both and for me, I found PES2009 more enjoyable from that stand point. I found that the:
-IQ
-Ball physics
-Player involvement
-Camera Angles
-Fluid movement of the players
-AI players do more then just kick the ball
-Goalies movements, diving, etc is more realistic
-Goal net doesn't look like pure crap (PC version)
-d-pad is better for doing tricks then using the right thumbstick with sweeping, time consuming movements just to do 1 trick.
helps me enjoy playing PES 2009 more then FIFA09. Yes, this is my opinion on the subject however, I am pointing out the very things I found enjoyable. Not generalizing...

The only thing I found about PES2009 that I would like to see is a 1 button for some tricks and the use of the left thumb pad for other tricks. Let the AI decide on what trick is best for that situation.

Edit:
I also wanted to add how tricks are done with FIFA09. The way you have to use wide, sweeping right thumbstick movements just to do 1 trick is very counter-intuitive to advancing the ball or getting out a tought defensive situations. Not only do you have to be a pro at playing FIFA09 you also have to be a pro at memorizing difficult "right thumb stick" combination just to do 1 trick.

Now if this was street ball with 3 players per team (for example). Taking the time to do those tricks on FIFA09 would "mesh" more with the game style of that kind of game. The problem is this is not street ball and your playing a real team here. Those tricks should be less complicated, less time consuming and more align with the playing style of FIFA09.

This is why I like PES2009 d-pad use of those tricks. Although I would like the right trigger button feature for some tricks with the left thumb stick to do others. I found that the d-pad isn't as bad as what you have to do in FIFA09.

sorry but tricks are easy as fuck. How on earth can you find it difficult? It's like using the right analogue to do a 360 spin in pes.

Except there's so many tricks and combos.

It'ss not supposed to be so easy to be able to pull it off every time as in real life, you need to practise.

And how do you suppose you move the player with the left analogue and try too use the dpad at the same time?

I would be quite happy doing the tricks with shoulder button combinations rather than analogue stick movements but thats just my opinion.

I was actually extremely dissapointed with that demo... The ball seemed flat! The sounds came seemingly from punching a sand bag, the player movements were un-natural, it was about as smooth as bitumen and yeah... Terrible, I thought that they were going to fix all this, but instead I've been given another shit sandwich from Konami, completely laking any realism in gameplay. Then, once again the graphics are terrible, it's just reskinned PES 6 graphics, which whilst I didn't mind a couple of years back, is an issue now. I have kept playing PES 6 because it's only gone backwards!

Everything has been ruined over the past couple of years.

I just got FIFA 09 today and I have to say, I'm impressed. Everything about it now is far better than the shit they were giving their players back in FIFA 05-07 (probably 3 or the worst football games of all time, however I think PES 2008 and 2009 can match FIFA 2005 for shitness!). Ball physics is natural and actually has some vague baring on reality, collisions actually happen, players make runs off the ball both offensive and defense. Nothing pleased me more than to see an over lapping fullback as an outlet to make a break down the left before a cross into the box was headered in by a midfielder making a late run into the box. The tactical control you have before and during the match is far better than anything I've ever seen on PES in all my years of playing it. Then the AI can actually defend attacks, in the new PES 2009 demo I just got Messi, ran up the top of the box, down the top of the box, took a shot and GOAL! What the hell?!

I'm seriously dissapointed with the PES, so much so that it may actually be the first one that I'm not going to buy... Might compliment FIFA 09 being the first FIFA I've bought in 2 years...

Also, don't call yourself an expert you arrogant twit! Just because you've played every game doesn't make you an expert by any stretch of the imagination. You may be experienced, but there is a difference between that and being an expert. Anyhow, Bravo on the most arrogant comment I've seen in a while!

In all honesty, I have to say something that I'm going to feel rather dirty for saying, FIFA has won this year if something isn't seriously different between the demo and the final release. Not only won, but won by a country mile!

Fifa seems class to me this year as well, as hard as that is to say, but Konami are to doing to little each year. And the sad thing is they are doing bit by bit year after year just to get the game to play like a 3 year old game. Not good enough for me, PES09 will be the last roll of the dice for me, if I'm dissapointed once again, I'll shove the disc up my neighbours ass and play fifa.

My views on the game...also posted it in the fifa thread.

I’ve just picked up a copy of Fifa 09 on the puss3..i managed to trade in some of my 360 games as its broken and only had to pay £7 extra.

I have to say the game is very impressive and seems much better than the demo..there’s a lot more animations in the full version and maybe this is why. One I was really impressed with was when I played Celtic there player hit a shot straight at my keeper and chose not to pass to the player in a better position, the other player was then complaining about this by waving his arms up and down in frustration. I also scored a cracking header with Berbatov..you could see him slightly pushing the defender away to get enough space to header the ball first..it looked so real!

The game flows really well and it just seems so more realistic, you don’t get any odd running animations or anything like in pes.

At the moment Fifa 09 just seems way ahead of pes2009 and it’s going to be very hard for Konami to change this if they continue to be lazy and ignore the fans. I really recommend giving this game a try!

I've heard it a couple of times now that the final version of fifa09 is much better than the demo was...I'm certainly gonna give it a try!
