In PES, they spent a whole year developing forward runs, backward runs, diagonal runs, dummy runs, player support, man marking, etc. You can literally just see your teammates working the pitch to give you opportunity to pass and move and work around the defense. In PES, the AI for both sides (offense and defense) is so good and so intelligent, you don’t really need to bother with trick dribbles or manually making your guys run forward. This makes PES move much faster game play wise and more action packed because you’re always looking around and seeing your guys move. And they don’t move in stupid way that pull you out of position. They move like a real team moves.

In FIFA, it’s the opposite. I played countless demo games on Legendary setting and they CPU guys just don’t have the intelligence/AI to move around. They all do the same stupid thing….they do that sideways hop/scoot up the pitch as you dribble forward. They all just kinda stand around and barely move. If they do move, they NEVER, EVER make diagonal runs, dummy runs or backward runs. FIFA makes the human player rely on trick dribbling to get around the defense. Or FIFA makes you manually press L1 to make a CPU guy run forward…..FORWARD. that’s all they every do is run forward. Even if there are 4 defenders in front of him, he just runs forward.

PES relies on the superior AI intelligence of the CPU players to make realistic moves on the pitch, and in turn, makes the human player have to recognize opportunities to pass to them. Or you can also make your guys do runs, but unlike in FIFA, you can make your guys run ANY direction to avoid defenders (manually setting, press R3 and a direction). FIFA relies on the human player using the trick stick (R3 to beat defenders with tricks, moves).

Neither system is bad. But they are two totally different systems. Now I see why I thought FIFA 12 was so slow and PES was so fast. I played demo 1 for weeks before the FIFA demo came out and I was used to having my CPU players move around intelligently like real people would in a soccer game. When I played FIFA, it was like all my guys just stood around and there was very little movement.

I couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Can you edit formation's in FIFA? I downloaded the demo for 12 today and couldn't figure out how/if you could do it, I haven't played since 08 and don't remember being able to do it then.

Anyway, after playing the PES 12 Demo 2 on 360 and FIFA 12 demo on PS3 that's the biggest non gameplay difference I noticed, FIFA seems dramatically limited in terms of tactics and strategy compared to PES, granted the "Custom Tactics" slot was grayed about, but still, I wanted to run a 4-2-2-2 but wanted one CMF and one DMF with altered positioning and didn't have the option (or couldn't figure out how). I assume the things like Back 4 Depth, Width etc would be found under Custom Tactics?

In terms of gameplay I thought it was terrible compared to PES 2012 (demo 2) and I'm not a fan boy of PES as 2011 was my first one and I got it about 3 weeks ago. First and foremost, the whole process of containment/jockey/sprinting jockey/standing tackle/CPU contain is confusing as all hell and just wonky/not polished. For example, the ball carrier is running straight at goal, you're behind him over his left shoulder and he's dribbling with his right foot and sprinting, you catch up and attempt to slow him down by giving him an arm and instead stick your foot out to preform a standing tackle that ends up a good 2 yards short and let's him run free (not necessarily in on goal, just straight ahead wherever he's going) or you trip him. Anyway that's just one gripe, the killer for me is team mate AI (especially defensively) is just god awful, made me shut the game off after about 5 or 6 games.

I can't say I liked anything about the FIFA demo over PES other than off ball player movement on long passes, it seems more responsive. Other than that I much preferred everything gameplay wise in PES to FIFA.

Edit - One thing FIFA absolutely has over PES is manually switching your players on corner kicks with the right stick, IDK why PES hasn't implimented this, or why they switch you off of the player you pick and position as soon as the ball gets sent in, or why they don't jump and just let the ball fall to the opponents feet sometimes. AI corner kicks were a problem last year and it seems like they haven't been fixed.

Second Edit - Just had something really suspect happen, sent a through ball over the top from Pato to Ibrahimovic down the right touchline only Ibra was headed down the left center of the field, the keeper came about 15 yards out of and about 5-7 yards over to the side of his box to field the ball, he dribbled once (fucking shocked me) and then cleared the ball off my defender but it only got the midfield, I recovered and at this point I have about 6 players over the line and a few very nice and easy options to advance the ball quickly with the keeper still way outside his box, the CPU completely wipes out my player with a standing challenge that tripped my player far before making contact with the ball. Play went on and my chance was gone :(

Konami have done exactly what they told us they would do. Smash FIFA gameplay wise, unlike EA Sports, Konami realize and own up to there weaknesses, just as much as there positives.

EA Sports have not got a clue what it takes, they aim the game at 3 year olds and people who don't really have a clue about football, it takes advantage of materiel things to brainwash people into thinking it is a football sim.

Nothing says it better to me that my friends (most of which are FIFA fan-boys) have played the FIFA 12 demo and thought "Ahhh, nothings changed that much, gameplay feels the same, it looks the same, it is the same." then played the PES 2012 and was genuinely hooked and shocked. "This is something different, it is better, the gameplay is better"

People are coming around and waking up, they are being lied to by EA Sports every single year, not just FIFA either....across the whole range of the sport "sims" they produce. Tiger Woods sticks out like a sore thumb, they just don't change/evolve enough to warrant a new game every year.

My one mate (FIFA fan-boy) pre-ordered FIFA 12 out of habit, he played the PES 2012 and is now considering changing his pre-order. That speaks volumes to me.

Gameplay is what counts, not licenses and materiel add-ons. Pure gameplay, gameplay is what keeps you coming, gameplay is what keeps you wanting more, gameplay is what keeps you playing for 12 months, gameplay is what steers you away from other games, gameplay is what seperates the best from the rest, gameplay is what makes us say PES5/6 were the best, gameplay is what captivates us, gameplay is EVERYTHING.....and more.

It's a no fucking brainer for anybody with any common sense, PES 2012 has far better gameplay value and enjoyment than FIFA 12. It's been the case for many many many years (except 08 and 09 for PES) but I feel more so this year.

That FIFA-lark is fucking terrible, boring and requires no skill. I played 2 cringe-worthy games and it was deleted of the HD pronto, total insult to us, total insult to the sport.

Lol, that's two posts I've agreed with you on today CRANEY91.

I keep going back to FIFA, because a good few people on Twitter are saying it's an incredible game. I'm just not getting it. It's dull, super responsive (again) you can put any player where ever you want, it doesn't matter they're all the same. I feel I have to force absolutely everything, everyone is just standing around. I play the same pattern of play, over and over and over. I don't even think the graphics are up to much to be honest. That broadcast cam is f'kin awful, the game seems to ping round at a million miles per hour, there's no inertia, no momentum, no nothing.

My first game I won as Milan v Barce. I've had around ten games on it, and I really don't get it. AM I MISSING SOMETHING??

And the Impact Engine, had a few games with my mate last night, (FIFA fan boy) and even he had to confess that this Impact Engine is a shower of shit, PES' own collision detection system works a hundred times better and they haven't even been working on that as a main priority!

My FIFA friend is also now appalled that he can't just take me out, on either game. Such is the way he has been pre-programmed by EA to button mash for years. 'Why can't I tackle', that's so 'unreal, I should have taken Robben out then', and various other phrases he used as his inability to button mash became obvious.

But do you know what, by around the tenth game of PES he finally got it. He came out with this pearler
"It's better to just move about and stop the space isn't it" he said, I inwardly chuckled. At last it was sinking in and he was trying to develop his defensive play.

Sigh. At the moment there's nothing more satisfying than keeping a clean sheet against Bayern on this PES demo, a truly great effort if you can manage it on Top Player! It's what keeps me coming back.

Ill wait for amateur to compare FIFA12 and PES2012. Eventhough he hasnt played the games and think his subjective view is objective. What an amateur.:laugh::shocking:

Right, I'll give my fair views of both Fifa and Pes SO FAR. Note that I said "so far", so it may change like it did last year when I said that Fifa 11 was good, and then I realized how I didn't like it at all.

But anyway here it goes.
So far I am enjoying pes much more.
Reasons.
Tactics are superior and they actually work on the field
Manual off the ball is awesome if you manage it right
Individuality is again much superior - Yes it has the close control issue, but it's much better than in the first demo, that's for sure.
Defending. I love the new defending system in pes. Why? Because I can make well timed manual interceptions with the right stick player selection and overall, it's still ahead of Fifa's new defending system.
Goal variation and shooting are much better in pes too.
Passing is also better in pes

But I'll compare both, so I'll say what fifa has over pes.
Obviously animations. It feels more real and you can feel the player's weight.
Control. You have more control over anything, especially the shot. Shooting in general is not as good as Pes, but the control it gives you is great. Shooting is miles ahead of fifa 11's though.
Presentation and stadiums in general are better than pes, but the overall graphics aren't.

TBH, there isn't much that fifa 12 has over pes SO FAR. And yes I gave both a fair chance.

The defending system in fifa is just broken even though they tried to fix it. It's still broken and there's rarely any thought put into defending. Yes the new defending in fifa is ahead of it's predecessors, BUT, it's behind pes 12's defending system, where you cannot afford to make amateur mistakes.

Ofcourse, then comes the AI, which scripts in both games and they do things that you cannot in both games, However, the overall AI in pes is actually smarter for the first time since the ps3/360.

Note, that although it sounded like I praised pes more, I still like playing fifa 12 from time to time, but so far, I think pes is ahead of fifa overall, and in terms of gameplay it is well ahead. Every goal in pes feels like an achievement.
