Thought I would start a thread where people can put their formations and team styles and explain why they use these.

Well Il explain my formation first.

-----CF-----------

This is a rough formation it varies with the lwf and rmf.

I play with a deep defence, High level of pressure, players swap positions frequently.

Recently i been struggling with defence, so sometimes il play with one up top.
Major problem for me is finishing but at least the chances are coming!

you can see I like wing play and I sometimes bring my SS back to cmf to provide defensive support.

certainly you mean sideback and not wingback, as wingbacks count as midfielders in the game, and you can't have sidemidfielders +wingbacks

The I play a DMF against teams with an AMF in middle of field or against attacking teams, and a cmf against weaker sides.

Two center CMFs drift out to the wings and typically hold the ball up. Mostly support players.

I play the standard 4-4-2 with my Man Utd ML team with an SS and CF up front. I have my LMF slightly up front because I tend to rely on my left flank a bit more (probably something to do with the camera view).

Oops . Sorry , I just got a bit mixed up because my Left and Right backs are a bit more near the Wings...

IMO, I think it helps when you distinguish the roles of your players. It balances your team and lets you look for certain players that fit best instead of buying the most expensive guys.

Take my entire midfield for instance. I've got a ball winner CM, a holding/support CM, and a passing playmaker CM, paired with a ball holding strong AMC, and a super finesse/super passer AMC, with a lethal finisher up front.

I often check other peoples formations online on MLO, and they often buy players for name value or speed value. I see most don't have any sort of structure, which puts them at great disadvantages. Teams are no good with low body balance speedy ams/strikers who can't pass. I typically smash those teams.

A standard "Dutch" 4-3-3 (2 CMFs)....

With SS instead of wingers...

No positional changes 0, high pressure 15, wide play 5, high defensive line 10, other values all 10.

The general idea is to play fast, pressing football.
Trying to get the ball back ASAP, and then applying quick counters, mostly through the middle of the pitch with my 2 SS ripping the defensive line.
No position changes allows me to have the right players in the right positions for those counters.

I actually play very low pressure, low line, and no compactness on MLO.

This makes my cbs stay deep (kills through balls), the low pressure keeps them in position (most people expect high pressure online) and no compactness eats up passing lanes. Low pressure+no compactness really kills the cutback passes in the box as the players aren't all running for the dribbler, and choose to mark men and block passing lanes.

I've been allowing about 0.25 goals per game with this, but it takes discipline, got to know when to double man press (keep your player back while ai presses) and have to anticipate the opponents next move/pass. Only drawback is it gives up longshots, but most can't take those shots.
