recently I´ve had a discussion with some of my mates about which and why is the best formation. The mayority think the traditional ones like 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 are the best. However, I disagree completly with me, and I find the inusual formations are much more productive, both attaking and defending. I mean, for example if you love attaking...why not using a 4-2-4 or if your love is defending why not a 5-4-1 or a 3-6-1.I think the unusual formations are the best, producing a odd feeling in your opponent, who doesn´t know what to do!! what is your opinion about this? and what is your favourite formation??

I really like the default Real Madrid formation. The flat 4-4-2 formation is the one that I use most often though.

4-3-3 with forward 5 players all with forward attack run arrows, the rest neutral (no arrows) but with the team bias also set to attack.
Works for me (mostly)! ;)

i ususally use a 3-4-3, but with the mid 4 arranged so it's closer to a 3-2-2-3...if i get a lead and feel i'll have trouble keeping it, i'll slip back to a 5-3-2.

3-4-3:
........x.........
....x...x...x....
.....x.....x.....
..x...........x..
....x...x...x....
(except staggered a bit so one half plays a bit more forward, and half plays a bit back.)

i have never had a top quality formation that i have stuck with for longer than a week, but i always go for the most gung-ho formation

I usually play 4-4-2 diamond. Also have a few modified 3-5-2 and 3-4-3s.

Saw a dude in the national league playing as Brazil with a heavily modified 4-2-4 with 4 CFs pushed right up and it caused a few people problems (not me though ;) ).

I play a modified 3-5-2, move the end defenders a little bit more to the wing and forward a bit, move the wingers really close the the sideline, and move the OMFs next to each other rather than behind or infront.

i like this!!!!
I use that alot, but i find that it leaves the flanks very vulnerable. even when i anticipate runs down the lines it leaves space for passes back inside to runners from the midfieldwho can get lots of 1-timers off. I think it works better to sacrifice the second DMF for more width in the back. then the SBs can take more of a wing back role to bolster the flank of the midfield and you can get away with a more advanced position for your SMFs

In fact I use to play a 4-2-4 and it is quite useful specially in the countertattacking! imagine 4 guys there! If you are good at defending this formation is great
