I've scored two since owning it. It's a frickin' nightmare. I just pass now.

So how are you experts banging these in then?

i know everyone says but the best way IS in training mode, just get used to the kicking styles and you will easy master it. i think a placed free kick is more effective than a free kick with high power.

Totally agree, mate.

Free kicks are a nightmare in PES5. They were dead easy in WE9 though. Not sure why it's different in PES5 though. They're practically the same game.

Anyway, can anyone tell me about the so called "free kick bug" in PES5? I'd like to score some free kicks if that's ok with everyone here.

Ive not scored many either to be honest probably bout 4 or 5 since i owned it! The ones ive scored have been curlers but with what looks like lack on bend and so on! They look basic lol, anyways my mates seem to put a lot more in especially from distance and that is annoying! Ive never scored a lampard or so on, when i attempt it he'll kick the ball it'll go up and come down again right infront of the keeper! is there any way to keep it down when doing the lampard free kicks and maybe something for the curlers?

i scord loads with rooney takin freekicks because i have changed his run up to what he does in real life and by doing this i score nearly every time when he has a freekick.
Thats why people like veron and recoba are beeter freekick takers then say adriano and r.carlos.

Having not scored in the 2 months I've been playing;i finally scored 2 in 2 days; and have also hit the bar several times.

The surprising thing is that I wasn't using any specialist kickers: Tiago and Koller.

Well instead of holding down the shoot button in 1 motion you use 3 or 2 quick taps of the button. This technique is more percise. I like using it with Roberto Carlos then pressing triangle after letting go of the shoot button. Triangle makes it dip.

Interesting.

I didn't know that.

I'll try it out later.

Thanks for the tip.

Another tip is try hitting the power bar around this point (where the x is or on the half way mark)

I'm managing to score loads of free kicks now...which I haven't been able to do since about PES2.

For short range ones:

Aim over the wall, away from the keeper... Hold down on the D-Pad, charge the power bar up halfway and add curl away from the keeper. Typical Henry sort of free kick.

For medium/long range ones:

More risky - just hold square til about halfway, perhaps slightly more, and then press left/right on the D-Pad away from the keeper. Look great when they go in!

If it's kind of in the middle between short and long try holding R2 and use the same technique for a longer-range free kick.

i score my free kicks on pro 5 pretty much all the time from pretty much any where on the field(in there half) i do use two ppl to take and find pretty damn easy i hold r1 and up so he hits it hard if ya do that its harder to miss than score . the first free kick i scored was from about 40 yards but i have done them further!

Layoff is by pressing L2 and then L1 and X at the same time. Also free-kicks are much easier. I still have problems scoring free-kicks right on the edge of the box tho, miss to many from there, but on the whole most my free kicks go close or go in. Need to make it harder for pro evo 6.
First post for me but anyways. For right on the edge of the box free kicks. From 19m and under, just tap circle into top corner and it will go in. For 20-24 metres pressing r2 while curling the ball will give you a nice shot~ I scored like this with Park Chu Young, the korean youngster with freekick accuracy about 84(?) i think.

THE ANIMATION OF THE MOTION OF THE FK MATTERS TOO! In the edit mode, there are various ways one can edit how a free kicker approaches the ball as they kick it. What you should know is that the motion they move actually affects how they'll kick it, whether they'll have a better chance of clearing the wall or not or whether they are made for long distance or short distance FK's etc... Make sure you observe the motion by pressing square and see if the kicker will be kicking at an angle high up in the air or at a straighter angle. If he's running up to the ball but his kick doesn't angle very high... then he's good for long distance power kicks. If he doesn't charge up to the ball much but kicks at a high angle... then he's gold from less than 20 yards. After you observe the motions, play diff real life free kickers and see what type of style they free kick. If you don't believe me... go to practice and put the ball at about the 18-19 meter line. Select Endo from the japanese team to kick. Hold down and square while aiming at the corner of whichever post the goalie is not near. You don't need to adjust too much for curl... close shots usually don't get much curl at all so aim for the corner. You'll notice 9/10 times he clears the wall if you hit it under 1/2 power. I suggest 1/3 of the bar. Also, the ball looks very pure as it sails over the wall and usually is deadly accurate towards its destination. (Just under the bar out of the keeper's reach at a decent speed!) I discovered that the motion of animation for FK's matters b/c I created a player and went through all 8-9 FK animations and discovered that some animations make great kicks far away while some make great kicks close up. Endo furthered proved this as his FK stats are modest at best but from under 20 yards, I find he's the best free kicker in the game. For long distance kicks... I like Shevchenko. Again, his FK stats aren't high but b/c of his motion of kick, you can usually hold up and kick with power from far away while having it sail nicely over the wall.

Nope.

I'm just not getting it.

All of my free-kicks (close or normal range) either go just over or just wide.

And this is with players who have FK acc. and Curling 95+.

I don't know how anyone can say that free kicks in PES5 are easy.

They were 10 times easier to score in WE9. Never mind PES5.
