1st learn a basic guide to network

Questions

How is your PS2 connected to the network direct, via pc or router?

You could of least told us this!!!

I'm guessing a router. Whats the IP address of your router\PS2, subnet mask - have you opened the ports on your firewall etc.

Provide me with much more detail and I will be able help as long as your able to give me an idea of your setup and addresses etc

hello, i have sorta the same prblem, i am connectin straight from network card in pc tp ps2. i am using a crossover cable,

i found this on a site so i have followed this is it correct, i have used all the same numbers, only doff ones being my own ip for my nic card,

Well it should just work with the DHCP server on your router. Since it is not working put in all the settings manually.

Manually enter all the details:
IP Address: select one in the same range as the router. If the router is 192.168.1.254 then select 192.168.1.x (e.g. 192.168.1.10). Make sure the address you select is not in use.
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: The IP address of your router (e.g. 192.168.1.254)
DNS Server: Use the IP Addresses of TPG's DNS servers - 203.12.160.35, 203.12.160.36
,

will not get past the first green square when trying to connect,

can anyone please help me?

Yeah i have the same annoying problem with the "testing network enviroment" and just flashes there constantly and there so way to get out of it unless you reset your computer.

Even when i turn off the port settings on the game, it still goes to "testing network enviroment" but after a minute or so, it tell me it wont work with the UDP port and that i need to figure my router to open ports etc. Thing is, ive done that endlessly now and i still cant connect and it starting to put me out of the mood of playing this game. Anyone know the answer to this before i fill with rage and throw it n the bin.

Thanks

after an uneventful morning and afternoon gave the helpline a ring, got told I wasnt the only one with this problem and others had also contacted them, no joy here so they gave me Konamis number after caling them (they had also had ppl call them ref this) just told me to keep trying- 4 hours later still no joy just pipe music!
No other problems with any other games just seems to be this one, have also gone into network connections on the menu to test the connectivity, which works fine just problems when trying to get into the 'enviroment'.

Good luck, hope to play you all soon!!

I see alot of you are having this problem that it freezes on this screen, ive posted in the threads how to fix it but i thought i would start a new thread instead.

This is all down to your router firewall blocking incoming traffic on a certain port. "Yes but other games such as hardware areana work fine" i hear you cry, but for some reason i dont know of, this game gets blocked by the firewall. I had the same problem yesterday, then read somewhere that i should configure my router to allow incoming traffic on the specified port for the ps2. If you look at port settings in the network settings on PES5 (i think on the same screen as "network configuration" when your in the process of getting pes5 online, then you will have 2 choices, either automatic or specify port number. which was default 3658 UDP port i think. So i selected that, then changed the settings on my router to allow all incoming traffic. restarted my ps2 after saving, and it worked.

This effectively knocks down your firewall tho, so its probably not the best way. You should be able to just allow port 3658 or whichever you choose if your worried about not having a firewall, but im yet to try that, but what the hell it works Windows XP has its own firewall anyway so i dont see why you need one on the router too.

Bearing in mind tho i have a router/modem/switch all in one, so any other kind or router or modem might be a different ball game

Just been on the phone to playstation gaming helpline, they said they had rec'd 100's of calls today ref this. It is down to Konamis servers, if your router has been working on other software there shouldnt be any reason to change because of this game. He said stick with it, it should be first day teething problems, alledgedy they didnt anticipate the amount of people trying to log on!!
We will see.
