They'll never please everybody; there are still people who insist that PES 3 (the one with Collina on the box) is the best in terms of gameplay. PES 6 was amazing for its time but also had its problems, for one a crazy fast power-up bar, and, might I note, it got a crappy review from Gamespot, which I think goes to show how impartial they are these days.
Yeah pes 6 was not a bad game at all. But you mention the problems as well. I certainly agree.
The distance between defence-midfield and midfield-attack was to long. I played it the other day, and it was to easy playing the ball around in the midfield. It took almost an eternity for the opposing players to greet the player in ball possesion. And i was fc copenhagen vs. man united at top player..

As I've said a few times in recent days, it's down to personal opinion. No amount of pimping your own personal opinions will change peoples' minds. Some prefer the feel of FIFA and some PES. Some flit between the two with each new release and some are hardened life long fans who'd buy their game even if it looked like Matchday from the ZX Spectrum.
I've played both demos and prefer PES. My friend prefers FIFA. So I killed him (only joking).
Pick your game (or both as some have said) and enjoy!

pes/we is grower and grower every year for their graphic.
i give 5 star for graphic of pes2010/we2010.
when u look into the face of player, pes is more realistic.....true life!!! true live!!!
fifa10 just same as fifa09 on graphic.....face like cartoon.
u just look at lampard....doesnt look like real lampard.
when u look into pes demo...u see henry..with beard...with hair at his arms....real!!!!
for gameplay,
i try fifa10 demo...compare to pes10 demo....
i true say...that, with both of high level difficulty...
in pes i just score 1 goal...
but for fifa i can score 2-3 goal.
pes is more difficult to me to control....for me pes is better!!!

Not here to pick sides, but i'm seriously wondering if i've downloaded the same demo as everyone else. I'm on the PS3 played a few games of PES 2010, graphically it's better than Fifa, especially the pitch, but on the other hand even though the players resemble their real life counterparts better than Fifa does, they look really ill, even zombie like, especially Gerrard and Ibra, such pale skin with blackened eyes and really grainy, i play in HD and all other games look fine.
Then the player animation and cut scene celebrations, the players movements are so robotic, the way players fall after a phsical challenge or a slide tackle was not very good, no where near the level of Fifa, i was constantly shaking my head and cringling just playing it, and i've not even got to the player running animations, it's terrible i'd expect better on the PS2, i guess this is where Fifa is really in a league of it's own and having played FIFA 08 and 09, i guess i'm spoiled where as players that have only played PES will not think it's a big deal or may not see anything wrong.
Moving onto the gameplay, the build up was better than Fifa in the fact that you really need to think when building your attacks, and there is more of a midfield battle, although i hear Fifa is addressing this and reports are the Fifa 10 gameplay is slower than what it is in the demo, but we'll have to wait and see, but there is a serious problem with player reactions there seems to be a second delay after every button press, i can only compare it to playing online in Fifa against a player from Australia and the game is lagging badly, but this shouldn't happen offline.
I also found crossing to easy and all my goals came from pin point crosses even after bumping up the difficulty level, even players that were running full speed and slightly off balance could ping in a goood cross.
I found trying to send the player on a run frustrating as they was no movement which is the main reason there was more of a midfield battle compare to Fifa as you had little option but to pass back.
I'd give the demo 6.5/10, for me i hope some serious work has been done since the release of the demo, otherwise imo they will me miles behind Fifa, which can only be bad for football gaming fans regardless of which game you prefer.

i am a massive pes fan,played every single game over the years-also i have tried most of the fifas.
the thing is pes seemed to have hit their pinnacle with gameplay-it doesnt change but then it doesnt need to,it is very good.
fifa got ok with fifa 09 after years of trying,and fifa10 is supposed to be better
the reason people notice the changes more in gameplay with fifa is because over the years it was garbage,only starting to redeem itself with 09 and 10
pes is still my favourite because i think it plays a more solid game of football,fifa players seem to be lightweight when controlling them. i understand that most people will pick faults with the other game and i think the ultimate footy game would be a mixture of the two.
last night for example i played my son and scored 6 exactly the same goals on fifa 10.now thats not realistic!
i just prefer the feel of pes,it feels more solid when you run,and when im playing i dont notice animation! i think people that do are watching someone else playing then picking faults.
in fifa when i score a goal there is no excitement-there is still no feeling like scoring in pes-it feels like you deserved it.
people should choose to play what they like pes or fifa,for me it will always be pes!
