how do L1 and R1 work in free kicks?

in command list it says that by pressing L1 or R1 you can adjust left or right(whatever that means). but ive never seen any effect except when using beckham or carlos who have 98 and 91 swerve respectively. any idea about what it is exactly?

Christ knows mate.... It has been present in the last 3-4 PES games and I aint relaly seen it actually have an effect in any of them. Could be just me tho.

i think it only works when u do low and hard freekicks, like gerrard. i dont think you will see much difference when your trying to place it.

Up + Box + L1 to kick hard
Down + Box + R1 to kick slow
I saw it in practice. Just try to go there. I'm not sure whether L1 for hard kick or the other way around.

hard kick used to be up-x/[] and once you filled the bar Y

I've tried them couple of times but never really got it to work well.
Basically if your playin your friend and line up a free kick for the left corner, hold R1after square to shoot for the right corner instead.

Up= more power
down= less power
L1= increase power
R1 = desrease power
triangle= even more power
x= less power. Sometimes if you have a freekick from 32+ meters, you have to use the up, L1 and triangle to be able to create an chance at goal.

This guy's right, they are used to do secret direction changes. I don't use it, but it can fool the computer goalkeeper and the wall, in a similar fashion to when you take the freekick with the man standing over the ball.
