keep my full backs from just following the ball ? I like to control midfielders but every time the ball goes out wide my full back just seems to get caugght in no mans land - not near enough to tackle the player and leaving a massive hole behind him.

Human online opponents only score against me in two way ussually. Either a dribble down the middle with the lag or just general slowness of the online game, preventing me from getting control of the right player in time to do anything. Teams with players like Ronaldihno kill me on this.

The other is the pass to their winger who seems to have noone anywhere near him so he can cross, shoot or then theres the goal that really annoys me - the mess around for a minute and then cut it back for the strikers to score. I can ussually stop it but it would be so much easier if I could just stop their winger from having so much time in the first place.

And before someone suggests it Ive tried man marking and that doesnt seem to do anything.

From my experiences, there is no way you can do such a thing. MAYBE, you can set your defenders to aggresively mark the strikers. But usually, when you play online, your players are just retarded no matter what you do.

I have a similar problem to you, I play with 3 centre backs, and taking the left/right one to cover the winger with the ball, but for some reason the my middle centre back feels the need to try and sprint in front of me and get there too?Only to turn back leaving a giant hole in the middle.
I wish I could help but maybe you could take some comfort in knowing your not alone in your suffereing? No? Oh well

fully27 - maybe you're holding the Press2 button?

For the full backs, I'd suggest experimenting with all of the defensive arrows, even trying the low defence one. And give them attacking arrows pointing backwards (to your own goal).

Or you can just manually pull them back using Position Edit so they are much closer to your goal line.

No I wasnt using square, thats the problem. If I try and use it, counter their tendacies to abandon their position it still doesnt work. If I run back into the space they make and use sqaure as soon as the wandering player gets close it switches man I control to him, and then the man I reposition feels the need to come out and join me once more. Oh well, good to know Cech is being kept busy.

play like real madrid (used to). score more than them.

But else, just push your CBs right up to the point where if one more inch forward you'd need to select them as DMFs. That way they will always be offside, or if they get passed you have a whole half of a pitch to chase them back. 60% of the time, it works everytime.
