How to Shield? While running and in general?

Hi.I have this problem that com players(often much slower than my player)tend to easily get in front of my player and taking the ball by let's say, pulling his shirt, which alltogether looks pretty akward,as if the computer's cheating, and it's never seen as a foul by the referee.Every time I accidentally do something similiar it ends with a foul.In the situation when i'm running after the com his player prevents mine from getting in front of him by shielding with his arms, every time my player is about to get in front of him,the com kind of pushes him away and my player slows down.

So i'd like to know how to either prevent the com from getting in front of me so easily or how to myself get in front of him the same way.
I think this is the root to other issues i have with defence, like when i manage to intercept the com, which should result with me taking the ball to him,but the ball bounces between me and the com,and it somehow ends in his possesion again, behind my players back, running towards the goal.

All of what i mentioned doesn't happen all the time, but it happens often, especially in important games in the ML,like ch.league etc.

I do believe alot of the time it's the computer trying to even it up, he does always seem to get a lot of lucky bounces.

But you can hold off computer players to a degree, if you get infront of them slightly angle your run across the defending player and if you are far enough ahead you will shield the ball to prevent the player catching up.

Much depends on the player in possession, mainly his 'balance' attribute and general body physique. I read in the hints and tips book that this is hard to do anyway, with a very low success rate. I've found you can easily manage about 1 second shielding the ball, and buying yourself a second can go a long way in this game if you've got players making a run while you do it. I like to use James Beattie for doing that, he's definitely cut out for it being the target man that he is, Johnson can then make strides toward goal. It takes a bit of getting used to but it's a handy tactic to pull off and can be very rewarding.
