I played it for 2 days now and finally I can pass the ball and I can make some pretty good moves and goals. Though the game is harder than 10 and the AI presses alot more.
when you see this, try the r2 slow dribble and turn back, pass back. If you have a dribbler, try some feints with right stick and left stick, they work great and you can really hold the ball much longer.
As for passes.
Really, it's just a thing that you become used to. I have played fifa 10 on semi auto passing so I am not finding it a huge problem, though this still differs from fifa's passing. But I really got used to precise analogue control.
I noticed one thing.
When pressing L2 with a pass, it becomes manual, BUT THE METER RISES UP SLOWER, so when you have a player near you, use the manual instead, it works much better.
Now when you're in a midfield battle. Try to pass quickly and pass the ball to a player like xavi. Use the L1 + triangle lofted pass even from the midfield. I managed to pick out messi on several occasions.
Don't hesitate or messi will run into an offside trap. The player doesn't have to be in a great position in order to recieve the lofted ball. This isn't like pes 10, you really have to try everything in your arsenal including passes you normally wouldn't attempt in pes 10.

Try to keep possesion using 1 touch passing, as the ball is travelling to your player you should be looking for someone else in space to pass to (even if it means passing back along the back line), passing like this allows you to pull the other team out of shape then unleash someone like Robben or Ribery down the line and cross EARLY, you dont have to beat the last man either you can cross round them (like beckham does). This allows your forwards to run onto the ball and attack it while running, the trade off to this is because you cross early theres a chance nobody will be in the box yet depending how quickly you break.

I picked it up right away, I dont see the big issue with the passing. You just need to understand the distances between your players and figure out how hard to press the button to get them the ball in the best possible position to make it flow.

I´m getting the hang of this game. Using L2 for manual passing seems to do the trick as well as the R2 button :)

My tip is do not go for elaborate Messi dribbles because you will get tackled 90% of the time in this game (on top player). Instead of always dribbling, do 1-2 passes, through passes and high through passes to get into 1 on 1 positions. Another thing, do not shoot when your player is being held or pushed instead either shrug him off first or pass, because the ball will fly over or will not reach the keeper at all. You need to create space before you shoot.

Not an expert myself (yet...), but using wide players is a must... 4-4-2 helps a lot.

You can easily make 1-2s with those wide players and a centre midfielder or a striker.

The basics is always aim at the direction of the other player... in 2010 you often had to press diagonaly for the pass to be straight. In 2011 it's not like that.
Just aim at where you want to pass... don't have to compensate for sidelines and such.

Getting the right ammount of power on thoses passes is the key. Close passes just tap it or hold it just a little.
Through passes need to be high powered. Don't lead the pass too much.

I used to play with manual a lot in 2010 and it was a *itch at first, you'll love when you get used to it, just keep playing.
